After all the tax-CD scandals I doubt there is much dodgy German money left in Liechtenstein (German tax authorities bought CDs from bank employees with names and adresses of account holders). And even if there was - why should that mean they have to accept criminals being given an EU passport which gives them almost citizenship rights in Germany?WHL wrote: ↑Sun Oct 25, 2020 6:44 pmPlease, the Germans had their dodgy money in Liechtenstein, way before Cyprus was even in the EU
EU to launch infringement procedures against Cyprus, Malta over "golden passports"

Sorry but if you think there isn't any corruption in the EU s largest economy, you really cant be that gullible ?jeba wrote: ↑Sun Oct 25, 2020 9:14 pmAfter all the tax-CD scandals I doubt there is much dodgy German money left in Liechtenstein (German tax authorities bought CDs from bank employees with names and adresses of account holders). What makes you think that I think that? And what does it have to do with the topic?WHL wrote: ↑Sun Oct 25, 2020 10:09 pmSorry but if you think there isn't any corruption in the EU s largest economy, you really cant be that gullible ?jeba wrote: ↑Sun Oct 25, 2020 9:14 pmAfter all the tax-CD scandals I doubt there is much dodgy German money left in Liechtenstein (German tax authorities bought CDs from bank employees with names and adresses of account holders). Because you never mention it, when we are discussing corruption in the EU, we only hear about Cyprus.jeba wrote: ↑Mon Oct 26, 2020 2:45 amWhat makes you think that I think that? Re: EU to launch infringement procedures against Cyprus, Malta over "golden passports"
That's quite a weak basis for jumping to conclusions, especially given that AFAIR I haven't even joined a disxussion on corroption before. So why would I have been supposed to mention it?
Re: EU to launch infringement procedures against Cyprus, Malta over "golden passports"
Ok its very simple, Do you think that there is financial corruption in Germany as well as Cyprus, simple question?
Re: EU to launch infringement procedures against Cyprus, Malta over "golden passports"
Maybe there are things going on in other countries but the documentary on Al Jahzehra it was Cyprus demonstrated on public media
It seemed what been going on in Cyprus and Malta and seemed to be a slick well oiled machine of corruption in place
Sort of made it easier and handed it on a plate to the EU
Whether the net widens I think will depend on just how bad the situation is in Cyprus if I was a guessing man

No country is free of corruption, some are better at hiding it then others.

Re: EU to launch infringement procedures against Cyprus, Malta over "golden passports"
I agree that corruption exists almost everywhere, from 'soft' corruption, like the awarding of contracts, to others.
The UK is certainly MUCH more corrupt now, under Boris, than in recent history. These emergency powers allowing awarding of multi-billion pound contracts to Deloittes and Serco are the tip of the iceberg. We all know that the 'newer' the country administration, such as Cyprus, the more corruption tends to occur. But even established democracies, like Italy, are totally corrupt. But then, the EU itself has never passed an audit process! There is corruption there ....

Re: EU to launch infringement procedures against Cyprus, Malta over "golden passports"
Of course. Tell me one country where there isn´t. But what does that have to do with the topic at hand?WHL wrote: ↑Mon Oct 26, 2020 12:49 pmOk its very simple, Do you think that there is financial corruption in Germany as well as Cyprus, simple question?
Re: EU to launch infringement procedures against Cyprus, Malta over "golden passports"
It has to do with only small countries get clobbered by the EU, every country where corruption takes place should be clobbered, but we all know that will never happen
Re: EU to launch infringement procedures against Cyprus, Malta over "golden passports"
No, the topic was the golden passport program and whether Germany and others has a justified interest in making sure that criminals don´t get EU passports which grants them priviledges not only in Cyprus but all over the EU.

That´s one thing. Shifting the goalposts is quite another.WHL wrote: ↑Mon Oct 26, 2020 9:37 pmLike every other thread, the discussion develops into related issues
Re: EU to launch infringement procedures against Cyprus, Malta over "golden passports"
No one is shifting goalposts, the debate was corruption in Cyprus and how it affects the EU, as there is more corruption in country's like Germany and other EU country's, its only natural that questions are asked about their double standards.
Re: EU to launch infringement procedures against Cyprus, Malta over "golden passports"
Yes, you were. This thread was about the Al Jazeera video Which gave prima facie evidence of the slick methods used by the gang of people in Cyprus to find candidates abroad, regardless of criminal pasts, for the cash for passports scheme, which in most law abiding countries must have caused shockwaves. Especially within the EU.
Nothing was said about other countries.
It looks as if Cyprus doesn't intend to prosecute these unprincipled, lawbreakers. Presumably it will all be swept under the carpet..
But it won't do Cyprus's reputation abroad any good, especially where reputable banks are concerned. Making it even harder for normal people to transfer their legitimate money out of Cyprus to UK or other countries. Banks abroad are well aware of Cyprus's shady financial practices and money laundering as I have discovered. There are now so many extra steps and a lot of extra paperwork.

Nothing was said at the start, but topics meander. It happens all the time and is a well known occurrence that should come as no surprise to anybody who uses this or any other forum.Kili01 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 28, 2020 4:38 pm Yes, you were. And why shouldn't it? If you are holding up Country A for inspection, why shouldn't you compare it to Country B and Country C?
And let's face it, the blatant cronyism occurring in the UK at the moment would make any Cypriot politician blush if they tried to pull a similar stunt.

Almost as if cronyism did not exist in world politics prior to 2019.
Ticking away, the moments that make up a dull day.
