They tried that a few months ago. There was a 'flying squad of 2 traffic wardens on scooters swooping on parked cars.. outside Alpha Bank on the Polis Rd. Until a bank official came out and warned them off......
Better if they show some discretion and concentrate on cars parked on pavements, road junctions, pedestrian crossings etc.

I've found parking ridiculous here, so I guess it's about time they 'clamped down'

You mean places where you don't park your car illegally?Kili01 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 23, 2020 8:01 am They tried that a few months ago. Couldn't agree more! Parking in Paphos is completely hap hazard. As yet nothing seems to have been done to stop it.I agree with Mouse, parking outside Time Out is a serious hazard to drivers at this busy road junction. Some drivers don't care, they have no qualms about blocking in your legitimately parked car either... while some drivers can't park within the white lines of a parking space in a carpark. Sometimes taking up two spaces in an otherwise full car park.

Jeepers Lloyd. Where do you have to pay £5 an hour to park in the UK? That is fierce!
This morning I parked at Morrison's. Paid £1. Went to Markies, Lakeland . . . . back to Morrisons for a few bits and bobs, and got my £1 back. No complaints from me.
In fact most, if not all supermarket parking is free and also hospitals.

PS However, if I had chosen to park in Markies (as it is within a Shopping Centre) I would have been charged £2 with no refund.

Agree with you HIC , but your not correct with the charges, The average cost to park for an hour in the centre of London is more than the newly increased national living wage, a new study suggests.Happy in Cyprus wrote: ↑Sat Oct 24, 2020 11:20 pm I find parking here rather quaint actually, but at times a little frustrating. As is often said, Cypriots don't park cars, they abandon them.
Would I rather be paying £5 an hour to park in the UK, with over-zealous parking wardens just waiting to punish a 30 second overstay with a £100 fine. Hell no, I'll take Cyprus complete with faults, anyday.
A 60 minute stay in the UK capital costs an alarming £8.84 - that's over the increased minimum living wage for workers over 25 years of age.
Some People live so they can moan moan moan, you dont realise how good you have it here until you go back to London and spend ages going around in a loop trying to find a parking space, be it on a road or in a car park
Re: Paphos clamping down on illegal parking
That's the UK for you, build shopping malls and retail parks to relieve congestion and parking problems in the towns, great. The knock on effect is town centres become deserted with no shops, then start charging for parking on those retail parks.Maggie B wrote: ↑Sun Oct 25, 2020 12:22 am Jeepers Lloyd. Re: Paphos clamping down on illegal parking
In UK too many cars, but I wouldn't dream of taking my car to London and parking it there. No need when you can use public transport to get there and while in London. In Cheltenham there are buses to get into the centre, but I often go to the business parks just outside town where a number of shops are now located and parking is available free of charge.
In Paphos public transport is patchy unless you are on the Coral Bay/ Peyia bus route to Paphos There are car parks some free some at minimal cost in Paphos, but the problem is that some people want to get as close to the front door of the shop and will abandon their vehicle with no thought to other road users or for road safety concerns. It is that type of parking which traffic wardens should concentrate on.

I report things as I see them, as do plenty of others. So please stop picking on me have you got nothing better to do. Some of this erratic parking is positively dangerous to other road users.I

Re: Paphos clamping down on illegal parking
Rather than point the finger at the standard of driving of the general public, it is more a case being up to the authorities to ensure the roads are safe to use on a daily basis rather than occasionally announce a campaign concentrating on various infringements.
Perhaps an effective method would be to tow away the offending vehicle to a local pound if improperly parked or being driven by someone under the influence of drink, drugs or a mobile phone?

Re: Paphos clamping down on illegal parking
I’ve been on the 612 bus from the harbour to the airport on many occasions. Always found it to be super reliable and never ‘patchy’
Re: Paphos clamping down on illegal parking
Yes, thats true, there's a regular service to the airport, there are also inter city busses too. But local busses from the outlying villages maybe irregular.

Isn't Paphos going to get a new bus company running services soon? Maybe new routes/frequencies?
