The youth of Cyprus are now better educated have bigger aspirations and in the main earn far more money than they could ever of dreamt of before they joined the EU.

This is how the EU works spreading the wealth and prosperity from the bottom up from which we all will benefit in the long run. Roger
Is unemployment 15% or not...? It was 4% when Cyprus joined the EU.

Having 'bigger aspirations' is great if you can get a job.

What is the rate in Greece, Italy, Spain now...? Now doubt the youth unemployed there have 'bigger aspirations' too - such a shame you can't cash them in.

You are wrong as the lowest economies grow they buy more of the richest countries goods and services making us all prosperous again check the UKs GDP since we joined the common market as a country we are 100s of billions richer even taking account of any inflation or payments to the EU.

rogertcb-The "six year high" Eurozone "growth" figures mentioned this morning by HIC are (besides being flash figures and projections), mainly attributable to Germany and France. In Germany's case, the figures reflect demand for manufactured goods by the U.S., China, U.K. and Middle East- not by the Eurozone, and certainly not by the impoverished south...

rogerctb - check the list of net contributors and net withdrawers ( sorry can't remember the technical term). Think you might then see the reason for the prosperity of the Bulgarians.

Ermmm at whose cost I wonder?? Ahh, that would be Germany and good old UK. So we give them shed loads of cash so they can buy our exports??? Not an economic theory I've ever come across I have to say.

Does pose the question though - how will they vote on UK Brexit???

Living in the UK I know without doubt you're definitely NOT alone....the ground swell is growing, the doubts openly discussed, the dictatorial behaviour of the govt mocked....everyone knows it's the brexit media leading the chase...but just this last week installed in a particularly wonderful hospital in England across the Welsh border..I never came across one leaver, I came across many who were deeply concerned...and others who are just sick of hearing of it...I tried to get them interested again. :D

We all need a voice in this, and we should get it.

The saying that the clocks go forward one hour today and the country goes backwards 40 years linger seriously in the minds of most remainers and abstainers.

Agree with HiC that the forum he and I abandoned has now only got one or two who wish the UK to stay, they are insulted daily by a small gang of Farage Hopkins luvvies who soon will just agree with each other and get bored, and only rise up when any other remainer dares to reply ....here we are allowed to give our opinions properly and fairly without insult...that's really good. To my horror I read an expat accuse another forumer who is obviously anti brexit, that he must be a foreigner and of an ilk who vandals expats cars...you couldn't make up that type of thinking  a very low attack IMO

Think you can primarily thank our mate Christofias for that. He was the one who led the country to near-bankruptcy in 2013, which caused so much of the unemployment we have seen. But thankfully, unemployment in Cyprus is on a downward trend and will continue to stay so as the economy improves.

And were it not for the (mainly) EU bailout in 2013 and the requirement by the Troika for Cyprus to get it's house in order, where would the country be now? Down the swanee is the short and sweet answer.

Josef K, welcome aboard. Nice to see you posting 8-) I no longer post on PP.
Perhaps without the €uro and the nightmare (on-going, no end in sight) in Greece a bailout wouldn't have been necessary?

Lloyd argues that there are no barriers to trade between the EU and the other 168 countries in the world but we should be in the EU because of the amazing trade barriers between the EU and the other 168 countries in the world... Go figure... :?

Lloyd you may or may not know about this newspaper online..I find it full of information unlike much of the UK press, when the DM makes the legs of two politicians a headline at such a time as this for the UK you can understand people's anger rising.

http://www.theneweuropean.co.uk/home

Plus did you watch the BBCs brexit question time last night? Britain after Brexit....Really interesting programme, take note of the reason the audience clapped and cheered the loudest after someone spoke...

A few highlights...from the mouth of David Davies himself..

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/bl ... itics-live

This is not going to end well for any of us, Brexiteer or Remoaner alike.

Anger may be rising where you live, but not where I live, most people I know voted to leave, and can't wait until 29th when, if Mrs May does indeed trigger article 50, a loud cheer will go up. Nor do I think anger is rising where my Son and Daughter live, ( three different counties ).

Stirring up imaginary problems won't help us in the least, or change our minds.

Right.....

I didn't say where I lived, as we all personally only know probably 100 people at best wherever in the UK we live it's no gauge whatsoever to the true feeling of anger or not..

My opinion is is that generally within the UK anger is definitely rising .....even the dreadful DM is casting doubts...who'd have believed it.

I'm sure you realise what I said Jackie....where I live has no bearing on it, neither where you live or where the many people you know live too....just because they're NOT angry means to you the rest of the UK isn't? You're talking about a few hundred people out of half of the UK...

It's the GENERAL feel of anger that is rising....you won't agree with that in your bubble but looking at it generally as I do that's what's happening....

When people find out for example on the brexit side that article 50 doesn't mean we get to stop freedom of movement for at least two years or treat any new immigrants ant differently when they're here...that's one bit of anger coming..

I heard David Davies say just last night that immigration may go up as well as down....those who voted because of immigration levels will be angry too...

There's more, but I'll leave it there.

I am sure he said EU citizens immigrating to the UK may well go up. NOT immigration. Just a thought.

As non eu immigration has always been higher, especially under Theresa May as Home Secretary ( and I guess they're going be pretty busy now for a couple of years ) I doubt immigration levels will change for the foreseeable future, although EU citizens sadly will hold off from starting a new life here now..for example we are now having to recruit many more doctors and nurses from Asia etc to relieve the huge shortage of staff in the NHS.

I see the pound has dropped to 1.14 today since the PM signed article 50.

Yes I did, excellent programme. As I watched David Davies floundering around, seemingly out of his depth, I could help but wonder how on earth he was ever selected to lead the negotiation team. For goodness sake, he must have taken his glasses off and then put them back on a hundred times during the hour. Sometimes he'd pop them into his breast pocket, then almost immediately take take back out and put them on. If a man can't decide whether or not he needs to wear his glasses, what chance has he got against the very astute negotiators he will be facing in a few weeks time :?

Must say that I was most impressed with Keir Starmer. And as for the UKIP representative, well...
David Davies is the best of the bunch too...he's under stress I agree, he drank lots of water...but his hands seemed tied regarding answering important questions, is it because he's not allowed to speak, or he doesn't know?

agree re Kier Starmer, but Suzanne Evans was way out of her depth, why UKIP are there beats me...they don't even have a representative in parliament anymore, and it brought a smile to my face when Dimbleby told her to pipe down.. the devolved parliaments should have been represented...it's the United Kingdom NOT just England and Scotland.

Plus there's a bit of Cleggmania going on as people are welcoming the former Lib Dem leader...politician reborn the media is saying...
