Post Box Stolen!

Post by J B »

Just had an e mail from one of the residents on our complex in Tala to say that our communal letter box has been stolen off the wall!

Image

Below the 27 was a stainless steel single letterbox and to the right there was an A4 notice explaining that the box was for houses F,G,H,I&J and the names of the owners

Two queries really.
Why would anyone want to steal the letterbox? If they wanted to break into it, I'm sure a screwdriver would have sufficed!
Why would they also steal the 'name plate' when they have left the complex name (to the left) in-tact.

Most bizarre!

Quite simply. Metal. Getting as bad here as it is/was in the UK and laws will have to be brought in to register the scrap metal dealers.

On our complex we have had the manhole covers stolen. The thieves also checked out the gardens and flats and took any metal ornaments etc.

We have a caravan on a plot and the wheels have been stolen. Plus copper piping and anything that could be sold for scrap. I am so glad we never got around to building a house. We have had a second home here for 29 years and seen the crime rate increase. People used to ask us were we worried about having a house on an isolated plot and we used to boast how crime free Cyprus was.

I seem to remember a thread some years ago about it being a legal requirement to have a post box but not being allowed to have multiple owners' mail going into one box (post office could not be responsible if more than the address had access to the box). There were a few small developments who changed from a communal box to individual ones. Perhaps it was the post office heavies!!!

Hi, In Theletra, all the British Addressees go into one wooden box, and the Cypriot ones in another - in the Coffee Shop! It works well for us. We always know when it is someone's Birthday - but we all do delivery for our neighbours. No problems. xxx

I did wonder that ...

If it was for the scrap metal, why take the sign as well??
