If, and it is a big if, the value was as stated, then the woman was an idiot leaving a bag in a parked car in a public car park. Yet she was able to cite the value to the nearest hundred pounds, just like that! It does not ring true to my ears!Paphos police are investigating a case of theft and malicious damage after a Greek-Cypriot woman reported on Saturday that €42,200 worth of property was stolen from her car.
According to the police, the incident happened during the complainant’s vacation in Polis Chrysochous and particularly while her car was parked in a public car park in the Latsi area.
Members of the Polis Chrysochous police station arrived at the scene. They found that the perpetrators had smashed the passenger seat window and grabbed the woman’s leather bag that contained jewellery and electronics worth €42,200.
Police collected various evidence from the scene in order to identify the perpetrators.
Investigations are ongoing.

Re: Stupid woman!
Also why take such valuable items away on holiday and then leave the bag In her car, in plain view of passers by?
As Devil says there is too much apparent carelessness involved In this? I doubt that her insurance, if she has it, would cover it. But I guess a cash payment is what she's hoping for especially when times are hard for many people.

Re: Stupid woman!
You don't need jewels worth thousands in a bag; the bag itself can be worth many thousands on it's own.

Re: Stupid woman!
Possibly felt safer leaving it in the car than carrying it with her (not seen mention if the leather bag was visible from outside or placed on the seat or on the floor or perhaps hidden/covered in the vehicle) and perhaps she thought parking in a public car park the vehicle was more visible to passers by than if she had parked in a secluded area.
Going off at a tangent, when we were liveaboard yachties we were always careful not to have expensive items such as jewellery, watches, cameras etc on show and usually 'dressed down' when we left the boat. Not such a problem if at anchor in the bay, but even that didn't stop some people boarding yachts (in one incident on another boat with machetes and breaking through the locked hatches while the owners were on board) and getting away with money, jewellery, documents and other expensive items. Alas many marinas do not have security measures in place and allow public access to the pontoons.
Even now, when we go away I just wear the jewellery - I don't take any extra items that have to be left in hotel rooms.

Re: Stupid woman!
Problem solved: I do not think anybody is likely to steal our house and garden very easily. I doubt very much whether we have anything worth stealing: a 14 year old TV set, some old computer equipment, probably 5 to 7 years old on average, a 1997 Encyclopaedia Britannica and various books. My wife, after 60 years of marriage, is feisty and I do not think any thief would go for that one, especially as she does not have any jewellery. I suppose the only item with a value higher than, say, EUR1000 must be our six year old car. However, although it may seem that we are poor, we are rich in spirit.

Re: Stupid woman!
Easy to do that, but not a very bright idea...surely, she would remember to hide it, if she didn't want to take it with her. If I had anything that valuable in my car (highly unlikely!) I wouldn't forget it... But I have seen previous reports in the local paper where people claim they have left things like their shop takings , in their car outside the house and overnight! Then they claim the car had been broken into a the money had. gone.
