This was the most popular show ever shown on bbc 3. I expect the lockdown helped. it was shown again on bbc1 and attracted a whole host of 5 star reviews. it consists of 12 thirty minute episodes.
It tells the story of Marianne , a feisty but friendless girl in her final year of high school. In the same class is Connell who is very shy but very popular . He has many friends and cares deeply about their opinions and what they may think of him. His young Mother Lorraine ( he often refers to her by name rather than Mum) works for Mariannes cold but very wealthy Mother as a cleaner.
Apart from the fact it had great reviews I had little idea of what it was about. So as I often do I had a quick peek. From the opening credits it took less than 2 minutes to get me hooked, I stopped it then and the wife and I watched the whole thing together.
To my untrained eye the photography and lighting seemed outstanding as indeed was the performances of the supporting cast. But it is the brilliance of the two relatively inexperienced leads that carry the show.
Incidentally the word grinds as used by Marianne is slang for extra tuition.

Re: normal people tv show
Thanks for the review. I had heard other very positive reviews of this programme but haven't started watching it yet. Now that you've reminded me I'll start watching it soon.
Re: normal people tv show
Hi Ams Hope you enjoy it.
Hi Les I did'nt much like Sally Rooneys first novel Conversations with Friends . I felt little empathy for any of the characters. Apparently its to made into a tv series. I expect we will have a long wait what with covid 19 etc. I did ,however like the second novel Normal People. I liked it a lot . The tv series tracks the book and given that Rooney co-wrote the first 6 episodes thats no surprise. However, like you, I preferred the tv series to the book. But I doubt that would have been the case if it was'nt for the wonderful performances of the two leads.
