Serious pub dispute ( ladies ) 1

Post by Chaddy »

A serious dispute in my local ( where else ) was on the topic of moisturising. especially in this climate.
Opinion 1.when moisturising in the morning you must apply it IMMEDIATELY after washing so as to retain the water in your skin which we know water can only be a god thing for it.
Opinion 2.wait for an hour or so after washing so to let your skin BREATH and stop your pours clogging.

The jury is out, what would be your verdict..I,ll pass your votes on ( in my local of course ).

I'm not good at doing "routine", my mum is a stickler for it and it's sent me in the opposite direction.

I do apply facial moisturizer, mostly after washing or sometimes after I've had breakfast but never after I've washed my hair, before using the hairdryer. Sweaty face under moisturizer isn't a good look.

Body moisturizer after the shower for keeping water in though, yes.... arms and legs.

Suncream works equally well but it's really not a requirement since we moved back to UK. But always on holiday before going out during the day, and on the face instead of moisturizer. No point taking more weight than necessary on holiday 😉

Apologies for the American use of the word, it's much easier to use the predictive text on my mobile than keep fixing it 🤐

If you eat sensibly a good balanced diet, your skin does not need any of these gudges. In reality, they probably do much more harm than good. Surely, you cannot believe that the good Lord requires you to lard yourself with chemicals over His work?

Have to agree with Dom on this one

If you have exhausted all of the normal “ The bloke down the pub said “ topics and you have resorted to discussing what is the best time for women to apply Bodge Then you really need help, Have you tried watching paint dry ?

Some years ago I had to apply various lotions and ointments for isolated patches of psoriasis on my knees and elbows, the dermatologists always told me to clean the area, pat gently dry and then apply the cream immediately in order to ''form a seal'' to get the most benefit. However, I do agree with Tanny that it is better to nourish the body from within and keeping hydrated also plays an important part in good skincare, but do occasionally use moisturiser ''as required''.

I do both, balanced diet and minimal skin care. When I was young my mother always put baby oil over me. I carried on doing it over the years until I was in my 60's and then went to a moisturiser. I'm particularly careful here in Cyprus when the humidity is low and very drying, but I'm not faddy. I just like my skin to feel smooth and soft. By the way, this is the wifey typing this!

No need to explain - I'm told there's loads of blokes that like baby oil all over them.

I do all of the above..... have never eaten or drank anything "diet" related in my life, we eat fresh veg, meals are all cooked from scratch, we rarely eat processed food although we may pay a visit to McDonalds about 3 times a year. But cold and windy weather in the UK doesn't do a lot for the face, especially if you ride a bicycle regularly or go for a walk along the seafront on a daily basis - hence the morning moisturiser.
There's no diabetes in our house either.

As I write, we have a homemade chicken curry on the go courtesy of the chef (my husband), made from scratch using spices, home grown tomatoes, chillies and coriander - sadly, we're not so successful with red or green peppers and onions are cheap enough to buy.

Thanks ever so much for the replies to my original post.HOWEVER I dare not show my ugly old mush in my local oasis next time until i have a consensus on whether you should moisturies immediately after washing or an hour later to let you skin breath first cos no one has answered the question directly.Cmon help me enjoy my next beer.
Oh,i came back from having a beer once and the boss ( the wife ) said who have you been with.I said i had been with a Danish guy called Karl .She said " Karl who " i said Karl Sberg. She give me the usual,,is he married, does he have any kids etc.It was weeks before she grasped it was meant....Carlsberg....She was not amused.
