Easy jet to paphos

3 Easyjet flights landed yesterday in Paphos, from Luton, Edinburgh and Manchester.

Surely they can't be repatriation flights? The U.K. Has stated Cyprus is safe so flights can depart, with or without passengers. I expect these flights would on normal circumstances be full.

The cynic in me says they were nearly empty, but possibly a means of refund avoidance. In other words the flights are leaving the UK, if you are not on board, no refund

The news tonight is that the UK will hopefully be moved from Group C to Group B Wef the 1st Aug. which means individual travelers will be able to come to Cyprus. Currently people from, Group B countries have to take a Covid 19 test, either in the UK before travel, or at PFO airport on arrival…

I was trying to focus on the flights arriving nearly empty, as a means of avoiding paying refunds.

These flights would have been nearly full pre covid, so the refund amount would have been huge.

Our daughters flight for the 28th July with easyjet has been cancelled and she has applied for a refund. I would imagine they are repatriation flights as there will be some Cyprus residents who are still in the UK and some UK residents like us who are still in Cyprus.

We should have been on the Luton flight arriving Saturday enight - EJ contacted us to confirm that the flight was still operating as scheduled but if we didn't have confirmation that we would be allowed entry we could transfer our flight to any other without cost - so we are now booked to travel on the 1st Aug...fingers crossed.

We flew with Easyjet on Saturday (18th July) to Gatwick. Great flight on schedule, spotlessly clean aircraft, pleasant crew, arrived 20 minutes early, although a bit concerned it might have been cancelled at the last minute, no problems.

I am no lawyer, but I would think they would be in legal jeopardy if they sold flights that they had no realistic prospect of delivering to their customers. Perhaps we have somebody on here who is more qualified to respond.

According to the Which article referred to in a similar thread last week:

"Ryanair has never allowed customers to claim a refund when flights operate, nor is it legally required too, even if destinations bar entry to UK holidaymakers or are on the FCO’s travel advisory list."

I had a flight booked with Ryanair yesterday (FR3131) obviously I had no intention of travelling to Stansted only to be turned around and sent back home again. I am just a property owner in Paphos, so have no legal right of entry under the current rules. Just as a matter of interest I decided to track the flight on Flightradar24 app. Imagine my surprise when the tracker showed the flight landing in Brussels after only an hour into the trip ! And it never resumed to Paphos and still hasn’t. Now, it is my opinion that Ryanair will say the flight was not cancelled and departed Stansted on time to avoid any refunds. But they probably turned the aircraft around Empty at the earliest opportunity. Thoughts ?

In view of the fact that the flight didn't reach Paphos, and can be proved, I would have thought that they wouldn't have a leg to stand on, if they used the fact that the plane took off to avoid refunds, especially if they were taken to Court, it did not go to Paphos.

Ryanair has had such bad press recently, I wouldn't dream of booking with them.
