Hellenic Bank mobile App

Post by Diocletian »

Has anyone else got a problem trying to get the 'updated' mobile banking app from Hellenic, to work?

Apparently there was an update to it in May and since then it has failed to allow both me and the Wife to login. We both have Samsung phones and despite numerous calls to Hellenic we are as yet , still unable to access the App. Prior to the the update, we had no problems at all.

I've had this problem for a while now although online banking still works well on the laptop.

I've deleted and reinstalled the App but it still fails with an error msg 'no connection available, try later'.

I've secure msged Hellenic but no reply as yet.

We have uninstalled, re-installed and still it fails to work. We have been in discussions with Hellenic IT since May and they repeatedly state that its been fixed and we say "no it hasn't ". Apparently it is possibly peculiar to Samsung phones although I suspect that they may well have just screwed up the update and now have an issue with Google Play.

Firstly, I hate anything where I have to combine the use of a computer and a telephone; how stupid can you get? Fortunately, I can still manage my Swiss accounts without having to switch on my phone. Hellenic Bank just simply drives me bonkers with their fifth rate system. I much preferred their old one with the digipass.

It seems to be something to do with their OTP text service at the initial point of Login. They have effectively destroyed a perfectly good App and seem to lack the know how to correct the mess.

Just tried the app to check balances, Works perfectly on both iPad and iPhone with most up to date versions of the app on both devices.

I've just logged in and checked balances without difficulty. I used a Huawei P smart Z.

How I used to hate that damn digipass! Trying to fathom out whether it was a 1 or a 7 when the bezel obscures the top of the screen and then when that fails, have to call them to answer at least 6 security questions, the answers to some I can't remember, or have to hand, followed by having to reset the bloody password. Grrrr.

So, yes I can access my account without a problem on my iphone6

In my discussions with Hellenic. It seems to be limited to Samsung phones. They did say that IPhones seemed to be okay.

So, I have downloaded the app to my IPad which operates on iOS 10.3.3. I log in and get a message about connectivity issues??

I am about to consider switching to a proper Bank.

So, the Hellenic Bank not only insists that you purchase a mobile phone, if you do not have one, but they restrict it to certain makes. Mine is an Alcatel and a combination of the bank and it drives me nuts.

Ok, I received a reply from Hellenic Customer Service saying that my mobile phone App is failing because my Internet connection is insufficient and I should try connecting with 3G as well!

Clearly they have misunderstood/can't be bothered and I should contact their technical support for a sensible response rather than the general 'front desk' scripted reply.

To be clear though..........the lack of a working mobile phone App does not prevent me managing my account on my laptop via online banking (i.e. the Hellenic website). It is just far more convenient to access and manage my account on my iPhone.

I expect the techies know there is a problem; it will be fixed and a new version quietly released to save face.

Happy in Cyprus wrote: Sat Jul 18, 2020 1:01 pm As a recent convert to mobile banking I'm blown away by how easy the First Direct App is to use. Just so quick and effortless. I had intended getting set up with Hellenic too, but reading the above comments I'm a little out off. I use Samsung.
I should point out that until May it was working perfectly well and we were very happy with it. Then an upgrade was carried out and bang, it no longer works. In the U.K. We use the Barclays App and that is fantastic. As an example, I misplaced my debit card for a period of 5 days and was able to freeze it via the App to prevent misuse. When I got it back, I simply turned it back on....brilliant.

My carer has a Samsung J7 & has just accessed his Hellenic account on-line without any problem. Maybe an update is required on the phone; could perhaps resolve the issue some people are experiencing.

After reading this thread I just tried successively to login using my Samsung A3, didn’t appear to be any problem, strange how it works on some Samsungs and not others.

I'm wondering if the problem is something to do with the fact that like Diocletian I am also in the UK at the moment.
Also my HSBC banking app is working without any issues from my iPhone.

Hellenic have messaged me to ask which model iphone and my location but no eureka moment as yet.
