Cannot understand why Boris, finally decides people must wear masks, now and not in March or April - but in 10 days and not right away! He’s a buffoon and because his messages are obscure and fuddled, it will be impossible to police the wearing in England. In Scotland, we have almost 100% adherence, because Sturgeon has always been clear, speaks every day and isn’t trying to do anything other than save lives. Scotland is close to having eradicated it. The wearing of masks for a time will keep it there until it is contained to a few occupancies easily traceable and dealt with.
meanwhile, London is expected to have move to an R rate of 1.3 - from 0.7 - the effects of open policies, bars, demonstrations and more

Catch 22. Saw a joke in the press today "I can't go in & buy a mask without wearing one". We seem to be bumbling from one scenario to another in England & I am just waiting for someone to say "We have learnt our lesson" & explain it to all the citizens & the relatives of those who have died
Re: UK could face second lockdown
Presumably the delay is to allow people time to get masks.

Has anybody tried the local motor factors for disposable masks? Only saying cause I was in the bodywork side all my working life and used them all the time brought from the local motor factors,or even try DIY shops, heard they were getting job to get in UK
Re: UK could face second lockdown
Interesting from a NHS surgeon. If you dont like wearing a mask, you wont enjoy a ventilator

Something to ponder?
If a fart can get through 2 arse cheeks,
underwear, and thick denim Jeans
what makes you all think
the virus aint coming
through that mask ?

It all depends on Velocity the speed of something in a given direction or pressure which is a continuous force exerted on or against an object by something in contact with it.
So now you know.

One thing I have noticed since I have needed specs to read, is that when wearing a mask, and reading with specs on, they steam up. So you know that at least part of breathing escapes the mask altogether.

Re: UK could face second lockdown
If the face mask is half-decent, it won’t steam up specs - if it is loose fitting, then it’s easy to make specs not steam up anyway - soapy water on Spec and left to dry will solve that. Even if Air escapes The sides of a mask, it is till helping to stop forced expulsions that can carry metres. There is no excuse to not wearing a mask when told to. I have worn a mask since February, as I knew of the issues heading our way (I read the news!)

The mask I was wearing was a clinical mask, and worn correctly. I have to say that in the past, when wearing a clinical mask, I did not need specs, so I wouldn't have known.
You read the news ! and ?

Jackie. Simply pointing out that there has been sufficient info in the news since late January for people to realise risks coming. Clinical type paper mask are loose fitting and doctors commonly fix the top to their nose with surgical tape to stop steaming up glasses. That’s two tips now!

I am not stupid, I do know the risks. Clinical masks are made so that you can press them to fit your face over the bridge of your nose, which mine was, but still my glasses streamed up.
I have never seen a doctor with surgical tape on their noses, likewise nurses, I was merely pointing out that masks do not protect one from the virus, they simply reduce the risk.
We were always told that masks were useless anyway, once they became wet.

Re: UK could face second lockdown
Jackie. The risks comment and the stupidity for not wearing a mask wasn’t aimed at you... you take everything too personal. The paper masks are designed for one patient/one wear.... I am lucky enough to have N95/FFP3 masks - the top level, that are ugly but very effective. They also have rubber around the edges, so the fit to the face is perfect. Even my big baw heid!
Re: UK could face second lockdown
I wear glasses all the time and do get some steaming up wearing a mask but usually only of the bottom of the lenses, I can assure you that it isn't that bad, certainly not as bad as going into a warm shop from a cold outside.
I have also suffered from Asthma for most of my life and never have a problem breathing, yes its a bit uncomfortable but that's all.
There is a post going around facebook saying isnt it strange that the people who dismissed BLM by saying ALM are the same as the ones complaining about having to wear a mask, I thought it a bit stupid at first but now I am thinking that there maybe an element of truth in it.
Just saying.

You can buy an anti mist solution in Jumbo,, it is for car windscreens but you can put it on your glasses with a Q Tip.
I still cannot see what the problem is wearing masks, popping into the shops for 20 minutes or so is no great hardship. When we go the shops we put the mask on when we enter and take it off when we leave, they dont have to be worn all day.
