Fly screens needed in Kamares?

Post by sunspot »

We renovating a house in Kamares. We'd like to preserve the beautiful views, which can be obstructed by fly screens.

However, I tend to be bitten badly by mosquitoes, and we do not want a house full of flies.

Some people say that Kamares is 'too high up' to be plagued by mossies and flies, so we only need a few screens.

Could Kamares residents please give me your views? Thank you.

I dont live in Kamares though live at a higher elevation and we get mosquitoes and noseeums which are even worse.
If you are looking for quality go for O'Neils Blinds or you can buy cheaper without the quality. The nets don't move at all .

I would say that even at higher altitudes as in Polemi where we are fly screen are an advantage..
As the name will tell you, they keep out flies, as well as Mozzies and noseeums .. Also don't forget that Moths are attracted to light, so without flyscreens they will come indoors at night..
We are certainly glad that we have ours as the bedroom to patio door is open all night

I previously lived in Kamares for many years. You definitely need fly screens fitted on every window. We had them fitted on both front and back doors too so that we could leave these doors open at times in the hot weather to help increase the ventilation.

I will add a question rather then start a new thread.. Is there such a thing as fine metal mesh fly screen material.. and if so where can I take a flyscreen door to have it fitted ??
The reason for asking about metal is that a cat I feed has destroyed the present netting in the door by clawing at it when it is feeding time ... I am never going to stop her doing this ..

Have you asked the guy who does double glazing in Polemi?
There two types of mesh that I know of, a plastic fibre type and alluniminium the latter is more expensive but most glaziers will do it, if you dont mind a bit of DIY One Stop sell it on rolls, you just cut of the length you need.

O’Neill’s do a ‘see thru’ Flyscreen mesh which is excellent and I would recommend.
I have it on my windows and doors and it does not restrict the view at all.

We had metal mesh fly screens, they weren't cat proof though, kitchen window screen destroyed when my cats clawed through the mesh to open it. Just a pity they never saw fit to close it again.

My adolescent cat gets her claws stuck in the mesh, she can’t release her claws after getting stuck!
Luckily we’re usually in to release her 😻🐈
