I love living here, been coming for 30 years and lived here for 18 but I dont pretend it's perfect. Lloyd can make his lists of how perfect life is here for him but many items on his list are of no importance to people who dont have a business here.
If making statements of fact is moaning then I guess I'm a moaner.

No one objects to constructive criticism, but 99.99% of the ladys posts consists of slagging off Cyprus, there isn't a nicer word to put it, just go and look at her posting history, and you will soon see a familiar pattern of negativity against anything Cyprus or Cypriots, many times she has posted about people? firms etc getting brown envelopes, shes very lucky no one on here has grassed her up, to those involved,
Driving
Politicians
Doctors
Hospitals
Roads
Shops
Education etc etc etc in fact every aspect of living here gets a negative tick.
Not one aspect of living in Cyprus gets past her negativity, so yes she is entitled to give her views on life in Cyprus, but equally dont be surprised when others pick her up on them, and ask for her to back up what she says, only the other day she compared the tragic stabbings and deaths in Glasgow, to asylum seekers doing the same in towns in Paphos,
I politely asked her for a link, as to where she gets her info from, and in the words of Diana Ross, Im still waiting,
only a fool would think Cyprus dosnt have many problems, but for the majority of us, the plus's out weigh the negatives,
to be honest I really cant see why anyone would want to live in a place if it was as bad as she makes out.

Back on subject, a few years ago back in London, my son, had a nice BMW, took it for a service, changed four tyres, had a valet inside and out, picked the car up, drove less then a mile down the North Circular rd, when he heard some crackling and saw smoke coming out of the bonnet, he just managed to get out and within minutes the whole car went up in flames, he even filled the tank up before leaving the garage, cut a long story short, they thought water had somehow got into the electrics when it was washed causing the fire, but as there was only a burned out shell left , the fire brigate couldnt get near the car because it was rush hour and cars were bumper to bumper, took ages for the insurances to sort out, and he only got a fraction of the cars value, so even well looked after cars can catch fire

Your last paragraph says it as I see it but I also understand where Lotus is coming from and the stress caused by the bureaucracy here having an effect on his wifes health.
I've been waiting 17 years for my title deeds to be completed, fortunately I dont get stressed about it but many people do and stress kills.
I'm sure you've lived here long enough to realise its who you know and not what you know and to me that's zDees bone of contention.

It certainly does help to have friends who are 'in the know'...

New electricity supply.. Help from a friendly Policeman.
Planning department ... keep going month after month. They find your file and it goes to the top.
MU1... A friend went to do both of ours..
A dispute with a landlord.. A restaurant owner gave him a phone call

And so it goes on time after time..

Who are you referring to?,like a lot of people life here in Cyprus started off great and were very happy,then the problems start,dodgy developers,terrible neighbours(Cypriot) !boundary issues on a village house which is 80 years old where my partner has lived for years,title deeds fiasco,corruption etc,these are the things I don't like about Cyprus,I can understand if you have none of these issues that life here would be lovely,but if you are lumbered with all these issues then it's not so good

If it helps, not that it really has anything to do with anybody else. I can confirm that the van was taxed and insured and had recently had over €700 spent on a service and remedial work. Fortunately the chaps in it were not injured and the van was destroyed so it will be impossible to determine the cause of the fire. Before anyone chips in, neither blokes smoke.
Now you can all move on.

I was not referring to your post, reading my reply again, I can see where you would think that, and I apologize if it gave you that thought
I was referring to some posters who take delight in putting a negative spin on life in Cyprus

Speaking from experience of both sides of the coin having spent 12 of the last 16yrs living and working in Cyprus before returning to UK 4yrs ago, there were originally only 2 things we missed about life in Cyprus.
Our two very close friends who we met there, travelled with and went for days and evenings out together, and the fact we lived in shorts and sandals for about 8 months of the year.

We don't work now but are not officially retired for a few more years yet. This was our choice.
We still have a very similar way of life here in the UK with everything in our local village on our doorstep and we're just 150 steps from our door to the beach. We were 10 minutes drive from a beach in Cyprus....
There's no hassle getting anything done, my husband doesn't get treated as being more superior than me when we need to carry out any financial transactions and everyone will have a conversation with you when you're checking out in the supermarket instead of talking to the operator next to them or yacking on their mobile.

We now only miss those days of always being able to wear shorts everyday for 8 months a year.

Our friends moved back to UK about 18 months ago and chose to live in the same village as us.

Our life carries on pretty much as we left it in 2016 except now we have more travel opportunities (pre-Covid) as we're not working and we're still continuing to enjoy our relaxed style of living.

Working in Cyprus in the type of jobs I did taught me one thing and that was I no longer wanted to work in UK with the hassle of travelling to and from an office and the officialdom and protocols that go with it.

My work in Cyprus was a complete doddle and paid better than the job I left behind in UK in the travel industry.

It's all about life and balance as well as what you make it but most of all, it's about opportunity and a bit of good luck of being in the right place at the right time.

We consider ourselves very lucky to have had the experience and opportunity to live overseas when we did but would not repeat it again. We've decided when the time is right we will travel for longer, keeping a pied a terre in UK.

And... we both only ever had one vehicle each in Cyprus during the whole of our time there. They each had their respective MOTs as necessary but never serviced. Neither of them set on fire. Just the luck of the draw, I guess
