75-year-old sought over hit and run and knife threat

Post by memory man »

Paphos police are looking for a 75-year-old man in connection with a hit and run where he allegedly threatened a much younger man with a knife.

According to the police, the suspect was involved in a traffic accident with the vehicle of a 25-year-old man around 7pm on Thursday on Lemonas – Amargetis street.

Both drivers stopped, and the younger man, who was with his girlfriend, suggested they should wait for the insurance companies.

The older man refused to stay at the scene of the accident and a fight broke out during which he threatened the younger man with a knife.

The suspect then fled the scene by driving recklessly near the couple.

Police issued an arrest warrant for the 75-year-old man. He is wanted for reckless driving, carrying a knife, threat, assault and causing a traffic accident and leaving the scene.

* I have a question.

I had a small accident with my car last year.
Someone else reversed into me.
I immediately put on hazards and hand brake.
I called my Ins company.
I was partially blocking the road.
I dont have a camera on my phone.

Many cars were passing ( just ) and tooting loudly.
They were getting angry.

I wouldn't move until Ins assessor came.
The police finally arrived and didn't do much to help.

What do you do??

Move the car OR stay put.

We moved our car when a similar thing happened. Mind you, we were able to take photos first.

I guess the people to ask would be your insurance company.

As far as I am aware you do Not move your car until the insurance assessor has been and taken photos.
Obviously if a traffic warden of Police said you had to move then that would be a different scenario.

I thought that if there is no one Is injured the police aren't very interested. If your car is partly blocking a narrow road, if you don't have a camera, you could draw a sketch of the accident. Marking any bodywork which is damaged. You are supposed to immediately ring your insurance co and ask their surveyor to come out to the scene. Also swap details of insurance co's and addresses with the other driver. If they are likely to be a long time coming, it might be sensible to move your car to the side of the road to avoid further accidents.

I do understand those who say move the car if needed... I was in an bump where a pickup reversed into the side of our car as we were passing ... The cars were left and MY insurance assessor was there withing around 15 minutes ... He took photos and then interviewed the Cypriot driver first.. Then he came for my side of the story.. However when I asked what the other guy had said he told me that he blamed me for passing too close across the back of his vehicle... I had to pass within a couple of feet as there was only one lane open on the road I was entering..
I appealed to Abbygate and after a lot of negotiation I was found not to blame

Back in the Day the Police would come out to every accident, that changed years ago, and they will only attend if there are injuries, if your blocking the road, the police will move your car, whether the insurance people have turned up or not, best thing you can do invest in a couple of cam cameras, very cheap now, and invaluable if you want to show who was at fault or not.
