First time after the curfew lifted...fresh fish at the sea front

I had to wait another week until my favourite fish tavern at Timi beach was allowed to open again after final checks from the health Authorities.
But yesterday I was informed they are open now and that they caught a nice " Harragia " and reserved it for me.
Unfortunately it was a bit windy yesterday at the seafront and Cypriots (their main customers) like that only if the temperature is higher. So they had problems to find a sheltered table as it is not allowed indoors where they normally sit until it is really hot. It was nice to see all the same customers again which obviously were waiting like me until the tavern was allowed to open again.

Yes nice looking fish, they look like Tsipoura ((Sp?) Sea Bream) ? Like all fish they do need filleting but most of the bones are big enough to see easily.. This taverna always has a good selection many locally caught.

But unlike the cheap Tsipoura, which is produced from fish farms with a lot of antibiotics, this one was caught with their own boats in the sea not far away from Timi/Mandra. However it belongs also to the wide Sea Bream family.

El Tel, I think that you are right about the seaweed, except that there is apparently no one here who's interested in processing it. (Is this a business opportunity for someone)? Theres always plenty of it available every spring and it just ends up in rotting, smelly piles.

I remember hearing something about that. But did their enterprise ever get off the ground?
Haven't seen any seaweed fertiliser in the garden shops? I'd buy some if it was available...

There was a report last year about some young Cypriots setting up a business to turn it into fertiliser.

Much more interesting is to use seaweed, producing building insulation mats. Specially in Cyprus it would be a huge market. It is used in Germany since years now with a price just slightly higher then products using chemical ingredients.

In Cyprus it would be an easy way to produce it. Just spread it out in a thin layer in winter and the rain will drain the salt and sand. Later in the year the sun will dry it and then to collect it with an harvester type machine and form it into rolls.
