Electricity from the prickly pear?

Post by Devil »

If allowed to, the prickly pear plant seems to grow abundantly in Cyprus. Could it be used as a biofuel to generate electricity? Perhaps even as a source of potable water?

I could imagine whole fields of the plant, bordered by equipment to collect the water (which rain had originally supplied) and to generate electricity from the dried vegetation. Without having conducted any study, my gut-feeling is that large areas (especially of wasteland) may be viable for water and energy.

What do you think?
