Re: Net metering bills
There are a lot of mistakes and curiosities at EAC bills.Today I was reading the one of my German friend which EAC only estimated, but they charged him for the estimation: "Meter reading" : 0.98 Euro

or my previous bill where I had no Credit units left, they charged me RES & ES fund + Producer's RES & ES fund on the same bill

Re: Net metering bills
I was called and asked to read the meter myself. But they still charged me the 98 cents. Maybe I should send them an invoice for that amount?cyprusmax47 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 17, 2020 6:54 pm Today I was reading the one of my German friend which EAC only estimated, but they charged him for the estimation: "Meter reading" : 0.98 Euro![]()

That´s the dot and comma problem.mike strand2 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 17, 2020 11:15 pm Isn't there a mathematical error in the bill? 1.146 x €0.0288 = €0.033

Re: Net metering bills
Just how inconsistent can they be?
. .
We have numbers with no separator & numbers with, but with no consistency. Consumption is shown with & without a separator! Surely a separator is a separator and there should be no distinction between types of numbers.

Re: Net metering bills
We are new to the Net Metering System as ours was installed in June and only came online in August. From what I can see, we are far better off on the new system of charges. For our first two bills we paid €50.29, which was our net metering charges. Our last bill was €27.63, which worked out at €0.056 per kwh. The previous bill, when we were not in Cyprus, under the old system, when we used 255 kwh, it worked out at €0.19 per kwh, no saving whatsoever.
Under this new system, it is advantageous to use electric during the day, when the solar panels are producing. I have had the oven on and run the pool pump for an hour this morning, and have used no electricity through the meter. In the winter, it will be advantageous getting the house warm whilst you are producing electricity.
From my calculations, the breakeven point between the old system, charging €50.29 and the new system is around 1000 units.

Re: Net metering bills
I have just totalled my electricity bills for the past twelve months, and recalculated the same consumption based on the new figures shown in the invoices posted above.
I actually paid a total of €193 whereas under the new system, I would have paid just under €221. However, although that is not a big leap over the whole year, four of the six invoices would have been less than I actually paid, whilst the two winter ones were each more than double. For anybody on a tight fixed monthly income, that would need some careful budgetting.

Re: Net metering bills
If this new system stays that way,( which I don't believe ) you are absolutely correct that it is an advantage to switch on heavy loads like pool pump, air-con, oven, washing machine etc, providing you check your production at the time. From your 5 kWp PV system you should get 3500-3800 W between 10 AM and 2.30 PM. in full sunshine at the moment. Before and after that time it is less and it is important not to switch on everything at the same moment.Anarita John wrote: ↑Sat Apr 18, 2020 1:06 pm We are new to the Net Metering System as ours was installed in June and only came online in August. Washing machine p.e. uses only the first 10 minutes or so 3 kWh. Pool pump is always the same and you have to look at the amps on the pump label to find out how much kW you drawing (amps x 243 volt) With modern air-con inverter units it is difficult to say, as they vary a lot and use only at the start-up phase what it shows on the label.
It could be that EAC got instructions from Brussels how to run net-metering properly. Another idea would be to store too much electricity one produces with PV at daytime into battery storage and use that when there is no sunshine. Many households in Germany are switching to that system recently and reduces the pressure on the electrical power lines there. Another advantage is that it can work like a UPS (uninterrupted power supply) which in Cyprus would be quite handy sometimes in hot summer.

Re: Net metering bills
I've got a UPS for my PC and it had saved my ass numerous times. Because of the misleading nature of the advert for the device, it only powers the PC, and not the monitor, so the screen goes blank. As long as I leave it alone though, when the power comes back on the screen is back on and everything is as it was.

Re: Net metering bills
I have a couple of UPS and they power both tower and monitor. I made sure the UPS was powerful enough, one of them has three outlets and will power a printer as well.Dominic wrote: ↑Sat Apr 18, 2020 5:58 pm I've got a UPS for my PC and it had saved my ass numerous times. Re: Net metering bills
Oh it is powerful enough, it just only has one plug socket. It has four other connectors, but they are the wrong gender. I bought it on Amazon and it was shipped over via RSS, so I couldn't be arsed sending it back again.

Re: Net metering bills
So how eaxtly does the new system work? Are you saying that you´ll have to pay 2,88 Cents for what you import even though you´re exporting more than you import during a 2-months period?
Re: Net metering bills
I really think it is a 'Wait and see' when your next bill comes in.. I know what I usually pay without being charged for any units.. I am not expecting any chargeable units during the March / April period, so I will see what the bill is when it comes

Re: Net metering bills
Trev, we are now being charged €0.042007(including VAT) for each kwh that goes through the meter, whereas previously we were charged €24.24 and €0.96+VAT for Producers charge per billing period, which, with all the addons, amounted to €50.29 and then nothing for units which we had banked. We will now be running as much as we can during the day., eg pool pump, baking, washing. However, it still works out much cheaper than our last electric bill before our solar panels were fitted, when we paid €0.223 per kwh. (dividing the total amount in euros by kwh.

Re: Net metering bills
John, A very easy way to control if your loads are bigger or smaller than what you produce from PV at the time is to have a little look at your EAC-meter...Anarita John wrote: ↑Sat Apr 18, 2020 9:52 pm We will now be running as much as we can during the day., eg pool pump, baking, washing.
The large arrow pointing to the left: you produce more than you use... arrow to the right of course the other way round. What to do to avoid too large loads, I have posted already yesterday...
