Insulated plaster board panels
Insulated plaster board panels
Insulated plaster board panels, does any members know where to buy these? thank you.
Jim.
Re: Insulated plaster board panels
From donkeys years of Fire Alarm engineering experience on major new build sites, watching other trades at work (as they were impeding our cabling progress very often) the Dry Lining (plasterboard) experts from Poland often caught my eye...
For example, they could coat a plasterboard wall to render it looking like your typical marble worktop! As for insulation of such standard 8'x4'x½" plasterboard panels, it's dead easy, Jim! All you need are vertical full-height 2" wide by 1" deep wooden battens nailed to the wall at exact 4' spacings.
Then use 30mm thick x 4' wide Rockwool insulation off of a roll to lag the wall between each batten, using glue to adhere it, then on go your plasterboard panels, screwed to the wood batterns with 30mm M4 drylining black countersunk woodscrews and your trusty Makita/Hitachi/deWALT battery driver!
Top Tip! Once you have the wooden battens in place, consider the electrics! Do any power points or light switches need to brought forward into the the proposed new wall? If so, 1 or 2 gang MK slimline plastic plasterboard backboxes (cheap as chips) will be your answer, with the aid of a Swiss Army penknife, or better still, a proper Stanley plasterboard saw, for cutting the square or rectangular hole in the that panel in just the right spot.
This is also a good stage at which to ask yourself "Do I want any more power sockets along this new wall?". If the answer is "yes" then I would strongly recommend getting a qualified sparky to come round and prepare those add-ons for you, then come back to second-fix after the new wall is in, plastered, and decorated...
All the best! AL

I think he means these:

Not sure if they're available locally but it would be a good idea. You might want to try JC Designs on the Polis Rd, they supply most dry lining products.

Re: Insulated plaster board panels
Thanks all, not really seen in these replies exactly what I am looking for, I will persist in the hunt, I know they make what I'm looking for just it's just Cyprus is not into insulating anything.
Although Paulo comes very close.
Alan already had all my ceilings insulated in this way, one of the best home improvements we have had done, but doing the interior walls this way with battens would reduce the size of the rooms, the plasterboard insulation I saw in the UK was just " no nailed" onto the walls, worked a treat as far as I can remember as it was a long time ago now.
Cheers everyone.

Re: Insulated plaster board panels
Unless someone has started importing them in the last year or two, insulated plasterboard is not available in Cyprus.
This is just one of a whole list of building and electrical items you can't buy here. Architrave switches and boxes and plaster depth electrical boxes are other examples. Even standard electrical 13am metal boxes have no build in adjuster, that is why so many electrical outlets are not square on the wall.
Crazy because the difference in wholesale price might be only 5 cents.

Re: Insulated plaster board panels
have you thought about having them sent over? LHUKCY is very reasonable and you might be able to get them delivered to his depot in Hertfordshire free of charge if you order from a DIY close to it. they would then be shipped over.
Re: Insulated plaster board panels
I've used them on projects in the U.K. no fire risk whatsoever.
The thermal qualities FAR exceed the 30mm rock wool method suggested..... which frankly, is al last a waste of time. Rockwool needs to be at least 100mm thick for proper thermal properties.
Insulated board also normally has a vapour barrier between the insulation and gyproc, both reflecting cold and preventing damp.
Putting gyproc over 30mm rockwool, in my opinion, would be a waste of time, effort and cost.

Re: Insulated plaster board panels
Anyone know if we can get insulated plasterboard in Cyprus yet, please? Or if anyone has had it shipped over from the UK?
Re: Insulated plaster board panels
Try Lanitis on the Geriskipou industrial estate, it's on the right just after the left turn to where all the garages are. When you drive into their yard go to the top warehouse and they have an office in there. Try and take a photograph of what you're looking for.
Alternatively there is an insulation stockist on the right going up the Polis road that sell all types of insulation products. You can see the blue wrapped insulation packs from the road. They are very helpful.

Ooof! Well, that was a surprise. I started reading this thread without registering the date it was originally started, and came across a post from my late hubby!
. That certainly woke me up!

Hi Jim, so many tips on here, you've not said should you get any boards what finish your going to give them. If you intend plastering them afterwards or just painting them.
Forgive me if you are already aware of this, but however your going to put them up if your going to plaster (skim) the boards, then normal straight edge plasterboards will be fine.
If your going to give them just a few coats of paint then I recommend getting plasterboards with a tapered edge (Dry Lining) plasterboards in other words.
Plenty of tips on utube on this dry lining method and how to create a perfect finish without all that plastering.
