A fire broke out on the first floor of a building on Makarios Avenue in Limassol after a loud explosion was heard at around 7.40am....

And would the Cyprus authorities play down any suggestion of an attack on something Russian - i.e. political?!

I just had a look through the Russian press. This story is being quite widely reported, mostly from the initial facebook story from Sergey.
But one source did not even mention the Russian Radio station in the building. Who knows? Maybe we'll find out in time.
Another source actively named the explosion as an attack on a Russian radio station. (my initial posting).
If somebody has started targetting Russians in Cyprus (perhaps in reaction to Putin bombing Syria) that would be worrying.

From an updated story in the Cyprus Mail:

“There is a beauty salon on the first floor where the explosion appears to have taken place,” Limassol CID chief Iannis Soteriades said.


Police and the fire service said the blaze was apparently started after an explosion at the beauty salon on the first floor of the business centre.

Police and the fire-service have cordoned off the area, closing down Makarios and Ayias Zonis Avenues.

The fire was put under control after damaging the first and second floors.

Soteriades confirmed that the owner of the salon had reported finding signs that a fire had been set the previous day but failed to spread.

Yes, but I can't help wondering what the owner of beauty salon must have done to warrant an arson attack. You would have to have severely bodged a make-over for that to happen.
