Clickable links

Post by PaphosAL »

Dominic: may I politely suggest that you tweak your board settings so that if a member clicks a link, it opens in a NEW window or tab, please?

At present, the settings are such that these links divert the user away from PL to a seperate IP, rather than keeping them on your host PL board...

I know they can press the back button or history in their browser to get back to PL, but I reckon this idea might be better. Sleep on it, eh?

Cheers- AL :?:

It's considered bad practice to open up new windows when links are pressed. Windows should only be opened up when the user wants them to. Historically, the only exception has been the terms and conditions on a checkout page. It makes sense to open up that separately. Even so, "best practices" stipulate that you must tell the user it will open in a new window.

So, as Aquila said, use the CTRL key, or right click the link (if using windows) and you can open it in a new tab or a new window.

What is the difference between a new tab and a new window? These days I am not sure, but a few years ago, a new window would be a completely new session, where as a new tab would share the existing session.
