Renewable Energy #1: Solar Pool Pump

With the change of the Gov's policy ( pressure of the EU) to allow private photo-voltaic installations to produce
electricity on your own roof (net-metering) there is suddenly a rush for this technology. It looks to me that since then there
is no more interest from installers to promote and sell Solar Pool Pump Systems (no more ads anymore in magazines).
I personally think there are several reasons why it is still a very good investment to install such a pump system.
Recently we had even in Winter periods of severe dust in the air mainly from the Sahara and Syria leaving everybody's Pool
in a big mess. (except Pools with Winter cover) For sure every Pool would look much cleaner if there is a Solar Pump installed,
filtering every day >10 hours the pool water, which means 2-3 times the full content, reducing chemical use and cleaning time.
People only partly living in CY can switch off complete their mains, while their pool will be still maintained by the power of the Sun.
House owners would perhaps like to install net-metering but do not have the space on their roof for at least 10 panels. There is
for sure a place somewhere to put 3-4 panels for a Pool pump. One can say a Solar pump system is a small version of net-metering
for less than 1/2 of the price while a pool pump is next to air con the biggest electric consumer of a household. It is nice to learn how
reliable PV is and how it works - not to forget your contribution to do something for the environment. No permits from EAC are necessary
unlike for net-metering. Your old pump system stays bypassed in case you want to use it in rainy conditions to hoover the pool.
If one owns already a net-metering system which is limited to max 5kWp you will enlarge legally to 6 kWp with extra 4 panels and solar pump.
So perhaps people still consider to install such a reliable Solar installation from a Paphos based company.

You can have both net metering and a stand alone PV pool pump without extra permit from EAC. We have so do our neighbours.

As far as I know you have to fill application forms only for net-metering not for Pool Pump Systems.
Net-metering scheme will stop as soon as 20MWp are installed.

Obviously to put a limitation of 20 Megawatt for PV from EAC
leads to the increased amount of new net-metering installations one can see on the roofs.
I would put the panels on the ground as a system produces more kWh's.

Another benefit to solar pool pumping is the temperature of the water is spread more evenly throughout the pool - the sun heats the surface and this spreads down for about 15cm. With solar pumping, the water is constantly being circulated and so the warmth is diffused throughout the whole pool. No more cold water, particularly in the deep end!

This is an interesting fact which I never realized as the water
temperature for me has to be > 28C before I enter a pool or the Sea.

So do ww - or am i the neighbour you refer to Dave - but with standard pump with inverter rather than a specialised solar pump. Works very well, depending on time of year and cloud cover generally runs, from about 07:15 to 16:00

Pump no idea, 6 panels, inverter is solaredge, running since July 2015.

I guess the pump is 1.5 hp
