A report by the EU Commission is highly critical of Cyprus' seemingly scant regard to it's CO2 emissions.
Cyprus had the biggest increase in greenhouse gas emissions in the last 30 years and is unable to meet its 2020 greenhouse gas emission reduction target, according to the European Commission.
According to the European Commission’s review of the first semester of 2020, the highest increase in greenhouse emissions per capita from 1990 to 2017 puts Cyprus at a 56 per cent increase, followed by Portugal and Spain with 23 and 22 per cent.

Re: Greenhouse Gas Emissions too high
That doesn't come as any surprise to me
The vast majority of local Cypriot owned cars on the road are 10 years old plus belching out clouds of diesel and petrol fumes
I personally avoid walking on the main roads at the times where there is likely to be heavy/queueing traffic to avoid breathing in the fumes
There is an air quality monitoring van on the car park opposite the Alpha Bank on Apostolou Pavlou Av. I bet the results from that are not subject to any Freedom of Information requirements as to the results being available
The traffic as far as reaching the lights at the top of town starts queuing outside the machine when its busy and there is actually a greyey blue haze that you can see above the road

Re: Greenhouse Gas Emissions too high
Well, well, well! I've been crying from the rooftops about Cyprus' environmental policies for the last 20 years. I've discussed them with Perdikis and Theopemptou to no avail. I've published documents and web sites about the subject and have proposed practical solutions (at least partial). I've even written a book on the subject.
In case you think my voice crying in the wilderness is just another crank, I worked for >20 years with the United Nations Environment Programme. I was the 3rd ever recipient of the UNEP Innovation Award. Sorry for the trumpet-blowing, but there are times when hiding under a bushel is counter-productive.
