Gov considering capping bank charges

Post by mike strand2 »

The Cyprus government are looking at whether they can cap the fees banks charge their customers.

The CM report indicates that they had persuaded the BoC to put on hold increased charges to domestic customers. My friend has just collected her new cheque book from BoC that previously was €5, but now €25. Anyone else noticed if their charges have gone up?

So what happened to, "The increased fees had been due to come into force on January 13, but Bank of Cyprus eventually shelved its plans following pressure from parliament."? Clearly not all increases shelved!

Not so Dominic. It's you who is being too simplistic! So would you pay someone in say, Nicosia who has no other facility to receive a payment?

Agree! I've not signed a cheque for at least 5 years and have always paid using other means.

I would either pay in cash or go elsewhere. I don't even own a chequebook, and haven't done so for years. Your question is irrelevent to me, as the situation has never arisen.

Besides, if they take a cheque, they will have a bank account, and if they have a bank account you can pay by bank transfer.

The thing is with bank transfers between individuals, some people understandably so, do not like passing their bank details to others ..
