When is a public car park not a car park ??

Ok went to Oniels Irish bar this afternoon, went to find a parking spot 40 % taken up by hire car or quad bike rentals the rest do not park here unless a customer with only a handful where it was possible to park after paying fee for the ticket , why does the municipality allow this ?

There is a Pay and display parking area alongside the curb outside the Harbour Paps.. But every time we go past I notice that at least two hire cars are taking up spaces, but they don;t have tickets on the windscreen. I was told that they pay for those parking spaces so they are 'theirs'...
It seems very strange to me. I did not know you could pay for parking spaces per month or per year..

Cannot see a chemist ,hairdresser, restaurant or travel agent paying for customer only parking rights seems to be the case wherever there are public car parks next to businesses

Certainly many businesses have one or more signs on the pavement saying that parking in front of their premises is for customers only..

That is illegal, you can not put signs saying for customers only, recently in Larnaca, a shop owner would leave a chair infront of his shop, thus saving the parking spot for his customers, the traffic warden asked the shop owner to remove the chair, the shop owner refused, so the traffic warden issued the chair a parking ticket, I kid you not, after paying the fine the shop owner does not put a chair out anymore.

You mean you've never been yelled at by the owner when you've parked outside & gone into another shop! That ensures I'll not be doing any shopping at that establishment in the future!

I have parked in residential streets in Limassol outside a house and when I've come back to the car my windscreen wipers have been sticking out away from the screen! On one occasion my rear wiper had been bent!

We stopped outside a shop one day and a bloke came out and tried to tell me I could not park there.
So I told him "you have no legal right or authority to tell me or anyone else where they can park on a public street"
He then turned around and walked back in to the shop saying nothing.
