Coach Convoy escorted by Police
In the Coral Bay area at about 1630 this afternoon there were 8 or 9 coaches with Police outriders front and rear. Anyone with any thoughts on what they were up to?

I saw them on the Limassol/Pafos motorway this arvo at about 4 - three coaches with a police car front and back...

A practise exercise for an upcoming Governmental calvalcade maybe?
Or a practise exercise for introducing sensibly-priced tourist buses from PFO into Paphos, without the interference and intimidation of the Paphos TAXI Mafia?
That would certainly need an armed escort...

Looks as though the convoy gathered more coaches after being spotted on the motorway. May all become clear in time.

Easy, but very boring.

Re: Coach Convoy escorted by Police
I would rather work on getting paid for doing something I enjoyed doing.
Years ago, when I was in the 6th form, I did a number of summer and weekend jobs to earn beer money. One such job involved pushing a broom about a factory near where I lived that made, amongst other things, farming equipment. It paid quite well, because one of my duties involved cleaning the loos, and apparently it is hard to find loo cleaners. However, a bog brush is a bog brush...
Anyway, it was a fascinating week. Pushing a broom around is boring work, but I got to know the engineers who were causing the mess I had to sweep up. I loved watching them weld their creations together and carve shapes out of massive lumps of metal. And I think they appreciated an attentive audience. The factory floor was spotless for my week, and I even did the carpark too, when I had nothing else to do.
On the last day, the person who's job I was filling in for returned, and we worked together. It was soul destroying. He showed me a little alleyway. He was really proud of it, because he could hide there for half an hour and nobody would miss him.
But there wasn't anything for him to actually do! He didn't bring a book with him, or a newspaper. He would just stand there, on his own, in this little alleyway.
The one thing I hate more than anything else is boredom.

Each to their own I guess but if you get paid doing a boring job & it keeps you off benefits & puts food on the table for your family I don't see the problem!

I didn't say there was a problem. I think you misunderstood me, or I misunderstood you. Any job is better than no job, let's get that one out of the way first. No, I thought you meant you would rather have a job sat there counting buses, than a job, say, driving buses, or something else where you did something more taxing.

Ok I understand the misunderstanding, my initial comment was an attempt at being flippant .............. guess the smilie didn't work!
No, personally I would always go for jobs that challenged me & always have but bear in mind a couple of things. Firstly, not everyone has ambition & thus can be reasonably happy with their lot & secondly, somebody has to do the boring job unfortunately!

Re: Coach Convoy escorted by Police
The convoy was simple for a bunch of Israeli tourists. The police escorting them were from Paphos main police station.
Re: Coach Convoy escorted by Police
I think its a touch of worry, a touch of paranoia.
When the Israeli rugby team came to play they had their own escort during their stay and there were police and dog searches of the stadium well before game time.

They also have security people whan they come over to play Bowls
Pretty sad that they have to do this

Re: Coach Convoy escorted by Police
Do they have to though? Surely without all the police escorts etc, nobody would have even noticed them?

Not sure you are right on that one Dominic, Jews seem to be prime targets these days all over the world, mainly because
of their government's treatment of the Palestinians who, it is reported on the BBC today, are being treated like
the old apartheid in S.Africa.
I would have thought that hostility to Jews might be stronger in a country like Cyprus so close geographically to Israel.
Geoff.
Re: Coach Convoy escorted by Police
You may well be right. I am certainly not speaking from any position of authority on the subject. I would have thought they would more likely be a target in Northern Cyprus though.

I spotted the coaches yesterday (Wed) on B6 between Kouklia and Mandria at 12.15 heading towards Paphos. Police car at front and behind.
