Paphos: Two arrests for theft, Emba house burgled

Post by memory man »

Paphos police have made two arrests — of a civil servant and a foreign national – as part of inquiries into two separate cases of theft and are also investigating the burglary of a Briton’s home in Emba, philenews reports.

It said that a 35 year old employee was arrested on Tuesday evening on suspicion of stealing state property. It follows the discovery of fishing nets and spearguns at his premises at Geroskipou which had recently been stolen from a state warehouse at Koloni. The items have an estimated value of 3000 euro and the suspect told police he had acquired them from someone else.

Meanwhile a 29 year old woman, a Romanian national, was arrested on suspicion of stealing alcohol from three different kiosks. She was reportedly spotted trying to steal alcohol from another kiosk yesterday by the owners who alerted police.

In a third case in the Paphos district a British woman, permanent resident of Emba, reported to police that burglars had stolen electrical goods and clothes from her home and driven off with her car.

Police stopped her car in Paphos and the driver & mates did a runner. The police ran faster & caught the driver who was arrested. The number plates had been removed and the car used as a trash can, along with other superficial damage to the bodywork inside and out!

Question? When number plates have been stolen & not recovered is it advisable to get a different number from the Dept of Transport?

They will not issue you with a new number, if it is just a case of stolen plates.

It could save a hassle if the plates are used on another car & the thief picks up parking & speeding fines & you then receive a demand to pay the fines..

If someone wanted to do that they would clone a no. Ie find a model and colour of car the same as theirs and get plates made to that no. The police have on board anpr cameras , so if your friends plates were being used on another make of car, it would soon be picked up by the police or traffic wardens etc.
