Halloween Mysteries

Post by Dominic »

As it is Halloween I thought I would tell you about the spooky railway we discovered beneath our feet a while back. However, as we haven't been able to find out anything about it we thought it prudent to throw in some ruins for good measure...

Dunno where you found the rails. The main line was Famagusta-Morphou, but the mining companies had branches. I first arrived here in 1952, a year too late to see the last goods train. At the time, much of the infrastructure was still standing and I've stood on the platform of Nicosia station, looking like what it was, with the poor quality rails going off into the distance.

They obviously just left the rails to rot in the sea when they closed the mine down...

Here what I found about maps and on page 11 old photos from the pier and how they were loading the copper concentrates to 50t barges....

The only thing about that is that the rails qre quite some distance form the pier. If they were going to just dump them in the sea I would have thought they would have left them closer to the pier.

Just now I found one image in my gallery showing abandoned barge which was used to transport the copper away from Limni pier...
