Which brands do car thieves in Cyprus prefer?
Japanese brands are the country’s car thieves favourites, police figures show.
The force on Thursday published information on car thefts between 2013-2019.

So far in 2019, Mitsubishi leads the list with six recorded case of theft, followed by Honda and Toyota with five each.

My all singing all dancing Mitsubushi COLT Gti was stolen in Birmingham in 1998, insurers paid out within a week and it was found a few months later totally stripped.
In the UK a car is stolen every 5 minutes. As you say, it is all relative.

I had a Toyota in the UK. Spare parts were very very expensive for it. I would think this may be driving the choice for car thieves.
