Laminate Flooring

Our living room tiles are quite damaged by wear especially under the table. We wondered if anyone has had laminate flooring put down especially on top of tiles and is it recommended, especially in this climate?

I have been to houses where this has been done. There seems to be no problem laying laminate on tiles

We don’t really fancy more tiles and thought that laminate would be a nice change. We’re not sure with our summer heat if they would buckle

No problem as long as a skilled workman lays them, i have seen some dodgy ones layed by the homeowners.

We have around 40 sq metres of laminate floor on tiles in our lounge installed almost twenty years ago. Recommend using the best quality as any dampness or spillage will result in the joins lifting. Ours have a thin layer of foam sponge between the existing floor and the laminate and each piece is glued together.

Laminate is good if you get the very best you can afford. Whatever you do, make sure that you get an EXPERT to lay them.

Laminate is so much nicer during the winter months when tiled floors are so cold.
I did my house 13 years ago and one or two small problems but overall it has lasted well. You do need to lay a fabric similar to bubble wrap between the tiles and the laminate. Worth remembering is most if not all doors would likely need to be removed and have a small amount shaved off to accommodate the extra height of the new floor.

Is vinyl click and lock flooring not available in Cyprus yet ? Much better than the old laminate, totally waterproof, silent to walk on, clicks together just like the old laminate planks, warm underfoot, and very easy to keep clean - Settles to most slight changes in floor levels and looks as good if not better than wood also very hard wearing - An expansion gap around the skirtings would obviously be required but it is much better than the now dated laminate flooring which is ruined if you spill anything on it - This stuff can be soaked with no damage.
