Expats refused flights
Expats refused flights
Interesting read in the Mail on line, British expats were not allowed to board a flight for spain because their Spanish residents papers were not valid, same thing has happened to expats trying to return to Germany and Italy, who said nothing will change after Brexit, interesting times coming.

I have edited your title, as you missed the "L" out.
How were their papers not valid? Did they not have any?

Sorry Dominic, I did try to put the Mail link up, but I'm using a tablet, and couldnt work out how to do it ,
I have copied the headlines from the paper,
A group of British expats living in Spain were stopped from boarding a flight to Madrid after airline staff informed them their residency papers were no longer valid following Brexit.
Nine passengers were prevented from boarding the Iberia/BA flight from London Heathrow to Madrid on Saturday night.
Staff reportedly blocked them from boarding and told them their pre-Brexit ID documents had become invalid.

Re: Expats refused flights
There has been much confusion and numerous changes with entry requirements for Spain and the Canaries as they have been at odds with each other for several weeks.
After Brexit, the rules don't appear to have been fed through correctly and a number of passengers were returned to UK after arriving in Spain over the last day or so.
One guy was allowed to stay when the police and immigration checked again, just grabbing him back at the very last minute.
The story was shared today to an expat Brexit group on Facebook - not through a news article.

If that's the case, then we may face the same problem when trying to get back to Cyprus from UK. Didn't we get told at some point pre Brexit that we will need to change our MEU3's for a new Cyprus Residents Permit?

Those who have refused to register for what ever reason, will indeed face problems entering and leaving Cyprus.

These new documents are the UK1.2 or 3 and are time limited. 5 years for the 1&2, 10 years for the 3.Les Bean wrote: ↑Mon Jan 04, 2021 1:03 pmAccording to this
1.The replacements for meu docs are not available yet
2.Swapping to them will be voluntary

Re: Expats refused flights
We got our MEU1 afew months back, got given photocopies as well but told to keep the original yellow slip with our passports and take it with us when we fly.
Might be worth getting in touch with flight pass to be safe.

That's good news.
As you said the yellow slip is only a4 paper, we was also advised NOT to laminate it

As many people have a smart phone nowadays, a copy on the phone is also accepted by immigration.
Re: Expats refused flights
Not a good time to travel at present.
We are expecting further restrictions to be announced by Cy Govt soon.
Watch this space.
Did you know that all travelers from the UK are tested again at Paphos or Larnaca airports on arrival and if found positive are taken to a Govt quarantine hotel for 7 days isolation. After 6 days they are retested and if found negative can go home, but must self isolate for a further 3 days.

Not so. All travellers from the UK have to go into quarantine at a hotel irrespective of whether they test positive or not.Kili01 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 07, 2021 7:38 am .

Did I read somewhere on a thread that the Cyprus government will accept tourists from the 1st March if they have had the inoculation ?

Re: Expats refused flights
That was published some time ago in the Cyprus Press where they also mentioned a secondary test on arrival, to confirm.
