I think of myself as an expat, though like many others I was also classed as an alien by virtue of possessing ‘the little brown Alien Book’. Since then I’ve assembled a collection of pink and yellow slips, and also have a Cyprus ID card. But I might move on or back in the future. Still undecided.

Hi, can you tell me how to get a Cyprus Id card, cos ours expired some time ago, and we now have the meu3 bits of paper which are not so easily transportable
Cheers
I think ID cards are only issued to Cypriot citizens now.

Some UK expats were issued with I D cards back in the day, why the authorities stopped them, I'm not sure, one of the forum members might give us the answer.

Yes. We've got them, and although they are accepted, I believe they are not actually still valid

I have one but it's expired and no longer valid, although some might accept it as proof of identity.

Don't think you can get one now, but after Brexit who knows whether it will be a card or a sheet of paper that will replace the MEU3

The issue of ID cards to non Cypriots was stopped as people tried to use them instead of carrying a passport for overseas travel.
Mine is date expired and yet I still carry and show it as proof of ID when asked.

When we applied for the MEU3 last December the lady at Immigration told us that those holding the MEU3 will be able to exchange the certificate for an ID Card which will be much easier to carry and produce when requested.

I still have a valid ID Card which expires next August. However, I also carry an A5 size colour copy of my MEU3 as that is more up-to-date.
