Re: New solar pool pump vs extra PV modules for net metering arrangement
We have the Lorenz DC solar pump, fed by 3 pv panels on our roof which are easterly facing. It runs during daylight hours and has cut back on our chemical usage considerably. We got it because, when we had a UV sanitiser fitted, a pool expert recommended we ran the pump for 12 hours a day in summer,...

Re: Our Pool Heater 2022/2023
I'm not a mathematician and I use a simpler formula to work out a cost per kwh for our net metering system and for a non net metered system. Total cost / number of units consumed = cost per kwh. Our Nov Bill, which my figures are based on. Bill total, €96.40, divided by 489 kwh = €0.612 per kwh. Nei...

Re: Our Pool Heater 2022/2023
Pool Heater now been on for 7 days since we got back last Sunday, just running it during daylight hours when we were producing solar electricity. From using around 40 kwh through the meter to get the water temperature to above 28c, the last 2 days we have used around 12kwh through the meter. To get ...

Our Pool Heater 2022/2023
A few people have messaged me asking for details of this years electricity production through our pv panels. Still waiting for our final electric bill so will post later about our overall production and consumption. However I have got details of our pool heater consumption. We have a Fairland pool h...

Brilliant fish and chips. They also do gluten free batter but need a couple of hours notice. Booking essential, especially during the summer.

Sunspot, ours come on automatically after a power cut and we begin producing and exporting immediately. We can monitor our production, but not how much we export by the app.We have a solar edge inverter.

Re: Perfect weather today producing electricity ....
Yesterday, 17th February, our production was 30.45 kwh. Production started at 6:45am, peaked at 12:15pm at 4.93kw and ended at approximately 5:15pm. We have 20 pv panels. Today, Saturday 18th, we produced 29.8kwh. Each panel produced between 1.48kwh and 1.61kwh. Just thankful we live in Cyprus, with...

Re: Electric Wall Heaters
Thanks for that information Max. Our two main roofs are East and West facing. We are thinking of having 6 pv panels on each roof. That allows us maximum amounts for exporting to the grid whereas if all of our panels were on a south facing roof, we would be limited to exporting approx 3.5kw per hour ...

Re: Giving your house away?
Problem with giving your house to a sibling. If they are married and get divorced, the house might become part of the divorce proceedings and you could lose at least half of it. Legal advice would need to be sought. Maybe setting up a trust would be a better option.

Re: Electric Wall Heaters
Kansas, like you, we set ours at 2 and even down to 1 on mild winters nights when the temp gets above 21c. We are thinking of getting pv panels here in the UK as we have been shocked by the price of electricity and gas. Paying £0.40 per kwh for electricity and £0.11 per kwh for gas. Spending between...

Re: Electric Wall Heaters
We have been cosy and warm this winter using just 2 LG air con units, with our pv panels. We have a 24btu inverter unit in the dining room and a smaller 18btu unit in the lounge. Since the end of December, we have put the larger unit on at 3pm and run it until around 8pm. Dining area around 22c. The...

Re: Tougher rules coming for cyclists
On Tuesday I rode from Anarita to Sea Caves and back. I posted about my ride on the Paphos Life facebook page. I always use the cycle lanes as I am a plodder. Ride took me along the B6. Don't go via the lanes now, as this time last year whilst riding with my daughter, we were accosted by a free runn...

Be interesting to see how the E4 will cross the new Paphos Polis road. Wonder if they will build a footbridge, like they did in the UK for the Pennine Way crossing the M62

Re: Our Pool Heater.
Cornelia, I would think it depends where you are situated. We are near the coast and and the pool gets full sun all day and is sheltered by the house at night. Normal winters night, we lose 2c but on a colder night 3c. Today we got the temperature up to 28c. It has taken 6 days and 250kwh to get the...

Re: Our Pool Heater.
Jeba, ours is an 8x4 pool, standard pool put in by the builders going from around 1 metre in depth to just over 2 metres. No insulation but a solar cover, which means on a normal winters night we lose 2 degrees and during the day, with the pool heater running in daylight hours, gain 3c. If it is ver...

Re: New ‘historic’ shelters for hikers in tourism upgrade
There is supposed to be a long distance footpath, part of the European Footpaths, the E4. Try following it. Even the bits where I have local knowledge, eg from the airport to Epskopi, would be almost impossible for a tourist coming out of the airport to negotiate. Google E4 maps, Cyprus and you get ...

Our Pool Heater.
For anyone interested in reading this fairly long post, here is a breakdown of the costs of running our heated swimming pool from 19th October to 10th January, when we turned off the heater. A few people have messaged me about the costs, so here is a breakdown. The heat pump heater was on for 74 day...

Re: Paphos harbour carfree waterside promenade
Remember the waiter at Ma Bianca telling us that one car goes past around 30 times each weekend night. The present set up with cars was dangerous for families with young children as the road was not visible but just part of the paved promenade. Will be much safer.

Much safer when it is pedestrianised. The original mayor wanted it closed off to traffic most of the time. Locals will cruise round and round in the summer showing off their cars. Remember one of the waiters at Ma Bianca telling us one car had been round 30 times. Would also be better for the shops ...

Re: Can you drive into My Mall Limassol from the back?
Good advise Kilo. Using the highway, as it is called here, or, as we call it the motorway and we think it is a lot safer than the B roads. Yes, you can get into the Mall rear car park. Just drive past the mall, going towards the coast, and take a right turn, then right again into the car park. Since...
