Re: Aphrodite's Bridgeq
Yes, I''ve walked part of the old road that you mentioned, and also as a passenger in a 4 wheel drive, we were told that it was originally a Roman road, it still runs between Aphrodite Hills and Alektora. In one place there was still the remains of Roman stone road paving. At that time some of the R...

Re: Aphrodite's Bridge
Its all supposition, as Max says no one knows. Probably the first settlers living in the Paphos area left traces of their presence by digging wells in the Lemba and Kissonerga area, 6000 years BC.These wells of which 3 were excavated by Archaeologists, showed evidence of having been dug with primiti...

Re: Aphrodite's Bridge
I guess that modern day developments like the construction of the nearby motorway and perhaps the creation of Secret Valley Golf course may be responsible for blocking the old river course. Maybe the winter rain run off of river water can be stored for using to irrigate the golf course in summer? Li...

Re: Cabinet orders revaluation of all Akamas projects in landmark decision
An interesting development, where a Govt let contract is concerned. The problem with many contractors is a seeming reluctance to interpret plans correctly. Many times they apparently get away with it. Certainly, when the local Govt has wanted to use its own contractor, they can do a lot of damage to...

Re: New Bus Stations Announced, And Fare Rises.
The 'new ' bus stop near the Archaeological Park was last summer in constant use by tourist coaches. I wonder where these coaches will park next summer? The present spot where the busses are parking is right at the back of the car park opposite the Leptos Head Offices. This latter spot is arguably m...

Marks & Spences, usually have different sizes of Christmas Puddings. I bought some nice mince pies there yesterday. For small sausage rolls try a deli.

Re: Traffice light cameras
A conundrum! Like Trev, I have followed the example of other drivers when turning right at traffic lights ‘between’ the ‘2’ green lights! If you loiter the drivers waiting behind you are tooting their horns in frustration!
I decided that it must be a Cyprus norm!

Re: education– or lack thereof
Yes, like Devil I had a POSB and was encouraged to save money on occasions when I rec money in lieu of birthday and /or Christmas presents as a child. But I'm not sure what happened to my book after I grew up andI left home. So I have never had the chance to spend the small amount of money .. I must...

Re: education– or lack thereof
The low standard of education in the State run schools has for a long time been very low, specially in the secondary schools. Half day school lessons, with indolent teachers has been the norm. Local parents who can afford it send their children to private schools, like the International School. Many ...

Re: Traffice light cameras
That may work in the Netherlands, but in Cyprus where the standard of driving is pretty low, but the tendency to speed is common, bends in the road planted densely with trees could increase the number of fatal road accidents.

Beautiful morning here in Chloraka. The dust haze has gone and the mountains standout against the blue sky! Sun feels pleasantly warm. Best of all have turned the irrigation off in the garden!

Yes,very interesting. It really would benefit all parties if a comprehensive settlement was reached.
But experience of Cypriot politics here in the last 20+years makes me feel sceptical.

Re: Paphos Beaches During A Storm
Actually, even with the old Roman wall which is mainly submerged near the harbour, it is still unsafe to leave the boats which are normally moored there when a storm threatens. Hence most boat owners remove their boats elsewhere... The small sea wall around the harbour, once extended the length of t...

Re: Paphos Seafront Storms - The Article
Yes, it was the previous Mayor. I was hoping that as our present one has done so much to change the whole sea front area, he might have had a low wall rebuilt while the major upgrade was in progress. But it seems that wasn't in his list of priorities.
