Re: Internet
I wish we could do 200Mbps down, 12MBps up is no problem though! unfortunately the overseas fibre costs put this into the long grass! Al, your speed tests are to the UK, or at least easy to reach parts, so no comparison to us poor people in CY with the expensive and limited undersea links. And yes, ...

Re: Registering EU citizens after 2019
Jim, the uk has never opted out, the form is clearly on the home office website, it is a standard form, but I will admit that the £65 cost is a bit steep. I paid a lot less, but it was basically the same form to fill in, I seem to remember it was €8 or about that. It is totally different to the one ...

Shipping to the UK
I have booked a 40' container to the uk leaving next Friday. I have a few items to send back, and booked a return as I have 2 vehicles coming back, so no space on the return leg. However there is about 30 foot available on the way to the UK, so if anyone wants any items shipped back PM me. I am not ...

Re: Internet
I am not certain contention is quite the issue these days as it was a few years ago. Almost all of the CYTA cabinets are on fibre these days, it is more likely a poor line to the premises. These days cabinets are connected with 10Gbps on the fibre - I know that because my fibre can have either 100MB...

Re: Registering EU citizens after 2019
As I understand it, Directive 2004/38 defines this. It requires the Citizen to register in order to exercise that right after 3 months. The UK does have such a scheme already, almost exactly the same as Cyprus with the same requirements. I have no idea why it has not been followed, I suspect an ECJ ...

Re: Internet
Your mag box should work with any provider, there should be no need to reset it. I would recommend at least 8Mb though, 16 for HD channels if your MAG provider supports them.

Re: Brexit Stumble? Another 2 years on top of 2019....
That is logical, as the UK agreed to the 7 year budget for the Eu, which is until 2020, so, yes transitional until end 2020 when next budget is agreed by the EU 27. Of course, that also means the EU payments to the UK like CAP etc should continue, but I will bet they will not keep to their commitmen...

I just checked mine, it goes back to the 28/08, so a bit more than 10 days, but the 27th is unavailable.

Re: Mag 265 box
There are not many providers that support the 256 yet, I am told that it is because the 256 portal is not compatible with the android or Pi Stalker application. I think that until the new codecs are taken up generally it is better to hang on a while and stick to the 250/254 box.

Re: Brexit Bill
Legally, I think you will find all obligations cease on the 29th March 2019, article 50 has been triggered. However, the UK did agree to the EU's 7 year budget for 2013-2020. Any obligations in this budget should be met, but that works two ways, ie. CAP payments, rural development grants etc from th...

Re: Cyta speed test
There is no comparison between the UK and here - all traffic from here must go via expensive undersea fibres! There is a world of difference between dragging a fibre between London and Manchester, or even London and Paris, to dragging a fibre between Paphos and Rome, or Athens, or Egypt! - ok, a fib...

It is not easy to pin down. Currently I have TV customers with problems in Kissongera, and the eastern end of the island, with CYTA - I am currently watching the exact program that someone has reported to be stop/start with cyta, with no glitches at all here. On my wireless network these symptoms ar...

I agree with HIC here (unusually)
there will always be a way.
I have noticed BEIN sports are keeping up on the pirate streams, but soon overcome within 24 hours.
Stick with your paid supplier, it is within their interests to keep the streams up for you.

100% certain that voip services are not blocked - the only services blocked are those required by law, like gambling and nasty porn sites.

Re: Pound at it' s lowest level for some time
It is great for me, but not so great for my customers. Even converting via paypal to GDP it is good for me. The 1.40 was a peak somewhere, but I usually work on 1.20 - in fact some of my customers paying by standing order to the UK account are still getting their original rates, even if it was 1.40 ...

Re: Cyta speed test
Unfortunately, you still have the line rental bit, "naked dsl" or landline -all us providers have to pay cyta for the local loop access, which is the line rental bit. I think from memory it is €10.20+VAT per month. it is reduced to €5+VAT per month if you supply your own DSL equipment in t...

To help with understanding the speeds required the following may give a guideline: SD stream - 1MB-4MB HD stream - 4MB-10MB UHD Stream - could use up to 30MB - edited after some tests! For most use 6MB is fine, except for HD/UHD streams, and probably not too much other use at the same time as viewin...

Re: Cyta speed test
I thought the speed upgrade was going to happen in August, as we had our new contract in May (we get the new terms slightly before cyta customers) Permanent fibre wireless customers get 10MB/2MB upload for €25.50, however our fixed line dsl customers only get 8MB/.75kbps for that price, as cyta take...
