Re: Shamima Begum: arch villain or unwitting patsy?
Oh for goodness sake Jim this is getting really tedious. You accuse the then Home Secretary of not having a clue as he was merely a banker! You accuse the Courts even the Supreme Court of making political decisions etc. You accuse the current Home Secretary of being a fanatic!! ( Not sure why you th...

Re: Shamima Begum: arch villain or unwitting patsy?
Jim B - a bit of a silly statement saying that Sajid Javid was a Banker and not an expert in Law!! I can assure you that it was stated at the time that he had of course sought much legal advice before making his decision and of course the Courts have upheld that decision!! I would have thought that ...

Re: UKCA to close by Xmas
It is sad news. We were members of the UKCA during our 10 years in Cyprus. We made many friends there particularly in the Camera Club which we both belonged to and for any of you that might remember David Brindley who was a prominent member of the camera club and also played a larger than life role ...

Re: Shamima Begum: arch villain or unwitting patsy?
No Jim she was not trafficked out of the UK. Her and her friends made their own way completely voluntarily to Turkey. If they were trafficked by the Canadian then that was in Turkey. She is lying and manipulative and I would venture to suggest a murderer in that 3 of her babies died - there are plen...

Re: Ex-pat UK Banks to shut Brit accounts due to EU red tape
When we moved to Cyprus in 2007 we thought it would be permanent and had sold up lock stock and barrel in the UK and closed our UK Bank Accounts. It was never a problem, we opened accounts with Bank of Cyprus and another one which I just forget, we had our pensions, both work pensions and Reirement ...

Re: Why you should consider moving to Cyprus
Poppy, where did I say we have the heating on. The post was about what we use when we need to use it. Only a couple of weeks ago it was necessary to put the gas fire on in the evening. The gas central heating hasn't been on for several months. Our consumption is down but the monthly bill rarely dro...

Re: Why you should consider moving to Cyprus
We have a 2 bed semi bungalow. We're with Bulb who are in Special Adminstration, bailed out / being supported by the UK Government due to the amount of households involved. One gas fire and GCH with a third of our radiators not in use for over 18 months as there are double in some rooms we don't ne...

Re: Why you should consider moving to Cyprus
Jim B you are wrong on so many things! As Firefly has said the £ 400 which will be credited to everyones fuel account in 6 monthly instalments of £66 is non repayable. - FACT. Everyone in the UK who lives in a BandA-D council tax home received £150 in early Summer - FACT. The £20 Universal credit yo...

Re: Manchester Airport Hotels.
I've stayed twice at the Raddison and the first time had a small complaint so on my next visit they upgraded me - very nice too! Was initially surprised when they failed to book me a taxi but understood why when the taxi ramp is virtually outside. Breakfast was very nice on both occasions - just a l...

Re: Further 16 per cent rise on energy bills
I don't think the UK is trying to blame the EU for the increase in energy prices. Although the increase is from 1 April people will not see vast increases immediately as weather warmer and most of us have now got heating off for most of the time. Many of us had the winter fuel allowance, we are rece...

Hmm one of the reasons I had to return to the UK! I have to say that despite the cold my health is better now since we left.

Re: Attempted murder of russians in Salisbury
WHL made the claim that British agents are committing murders. I asked him for some facts. He could not substantiate that claim by even pointing to any unsolved murders that might be linked to a British agent even. The difference here is that we have two very critically ill people and one very sever...

Re: Attempted murder of russians in Salisbury
Yes Dominic they have evidence that this particular nerve agent was produced in Russia.Do you really think that the Government and all the political parties are so stupid that they would take such serious measures without proof? They are not wild accusations and people are critically ill in hospital...

Re: Attempted murder of russians in Salisbury
If you cannot substantiate such wild allegations then it might be best to say nothing. This is a very serious situation which has succeeded in getting all UK political parties to agree the way forward and may I remind you that the implications could also affect many other countries including Cyprus....

Re: Attempted murder of russians in Salisbury
The point is if you want to dispose of russian ex spys etc then you don't do it on our soil! Besides his daughter and the policeman some 30 other people have needed to receive hospital treatment. This is an utterly despicable act and our government have just advised their very appropriate and strong...

Attempted murder of russians in Salisbury
This brutal act which not only has led to both russians still being critical in Hospital but also one of the UK policeman still in a serious condition has appalled everyone in the UK. The nerve agent has been identified as Novicheck which was developed by the Soviet Union in the 70's and appears to ...
