Re: Pl v PP

Hi Mark, I believe Admin have the right to lock posts which are potentially damaging or libellous. Other than that I believe Dominic runs this site with a fair and honest hand...and he does come across as having the patience of a saint ;) Can I also add my agreement with the above. I like PL and th...

Re: Cyprus talks crash without a deal

Sorry Huds, have to disagree. When Cyprus joined the EU it joined as a whole island (minus the SBAs) and simultaneously the aquis communicare (that made Cyprus part of the EU) was suspended for the north pending reunification. Therefore the north is indeed technically part of the EU although not in ...

Re: Cyprus talks crash without a deal

A very sad outcome. However, we must wait for the full UN report to see what the situation really is. Unless there is something significant we do not yet know, then I believe this was very much the "last chance saloon" as there is nowhere to go from here. I don't think Turkey will annex the north as...

Re: Uk's BREXIT BILL

Surely the financial terms of a split away from the EU would be contained in the "contract" the UK signed when it joined. So, what are the terms? How is the final calculation to be made? It should be there in black and white. If it isn't then those who signed it have been negligent.

Re: So, there is a Magic Money Tree after all?

It's interesting that David Trimble, the former First Minister, said the Troubles would probably not have occurred without Ian Paisley. What really interests me though is the money being thrown around by the Conservatives. To step back for a moment, the election was an attempt by the Conservatives t...

18 months doesn't seem very long. If he was in the UK he would probably have been done under the terrorism legislation and locked up for much longer.

Re: Racism, xenophobia, in Brexit Britain

If I can cut to the chase for a moment, people need to recall that the UK had a referendum on continued membership of the EU. The vote was to leave, as we know. However, the driver for the majority of those who voted to leave was that leaving would lead to the foreigners being forced to leave. You m...

Quite so, but he was too busy trying to convince the crowds at Glastonbury to vote for him, respect ? he wouldn't know it if it jumped up and hit him in the face !

Jackie
Trying to convince? Viewing the video I would say that the crowd of tens of thousands didn't need convincing.

Re: EHIC to continue

Hang on, I thought the EHIC card was a health card used within an EU country by a person who was a citizen of another EU country. Once the UK leaves the EU, then EHIC cards don't apply to UK citizens. This is what the majority of Brits voted for, and to suggest otherwise is to ignore the referendum ...

At last indeed. The question has to be asked why it has taken over 70 years.

Oh come on! Took the queen's shilling and put country before self? Well it may have been what you did, but I question if this rather romantic view was the motivation for the majority of the armed forces. For many it was the only job they could find, and for the older amongst us it was compulsory, fo...

Re: Brexit: Tory MP Leadsom says broadcasters should be patriotic

I thought broadcasters where supposed to hold politicians to account on our behalf. Apparently that idea is now unpatriotic.

Not the first stupid thing Leadsom has said, and likely not to be the last.

Re: Cyprus Tax Residency

I don't think this is true Shane. Given the UK rules for tax residency, and your suggestion that it would be only 60 days for Cyprus liability, this would mean having tax liabilities in both countries. However, the double tax agreement with the UK prevents this, so it is unworkable. Additionally, th...

Lord Buckethead's 2017 Manifesto The abolition of the Lords (except me). Full facial coverings to be kept legal, especially bucket-related headgear. No third runway to be built at Heathrow: where we’re going we don’t need runways. Ceefax to be brought back immediately, with The Oracle and other Tele...

Of course you are right in the circumstances of the quote. However, my use was in line with his, namely the false patriotism of so-called patriots today. Many who claim to be patriots are in fact nationalists, with all the present day connotations that brings.

There is no evidence that a national minimum wage destroys jobs.

What was most interesting was the omission of any mention of Trump's state visit. I gather he is too frightened to come.

A very funny interview. He clearly had not even read the Queen's Speech.

Boris has run away once when he had the opportunity to be PM. I don't see that he would change.

I think there is a difference between refusing to sing and choosing not to sing. He is, like me, a republican. I don't sing it or stand. I sit quietly whilst others who choose to sing get on with it. Neither would I bow to the Queen if I ever met her. I don't bow to anyone, I look them in the eye. J...

One is a Kiosk on the left as you walk away from the p...

Re: New ATM ALERT!!!

These new private ATMs (the blue ones) make a charge of 2.5 euros per withdrawal. It doesn't show on the receipt slip and is not mentioned on the machine or screen. Neither does it trigger an alert on your mobile, if you have that facility. The first you see it is on your bank statement.
