Re: WISE (formally Transferwise)

I’ve been using Wise for a while with no issues, saw this post and tried to make a transfer to my BoC account and to Blue Orange (also BoC) - nope, neither would go through. I set up a Currency Fair account in a few minutes, account was quickly verified and activated and payment to my BoC account we...

Re: Ryanair refunds

I requested a refund from Ryanair but subsequently was issued with a voucher. Ryanair then said I had to request to be put in a queue for a refund but refund wouldn’t be made until after the pandemic is over. I made a claim through my credit card and received the money back from them in 15 working d...

If you send a text with the words PHARM PA to 1000 you get a reply with details of a chemist that is currently open in Paphos.

Begging for Food

Yesterday evening, I had been shopping in Papantoniou at the harbour and was walking back up the main road. Just across from Hondros I was approached by a young man, possibly late teens/early 20s who told me he didn’t want any money, but he was hungry and could I buy him food from the supermarket. H...

Re: Wine Glasses in hand luggage

I travelled back to the UK from Paphos with 6 wine glasses in my hand luggage. They were still in the cardboard packaging they came in. No problems at all at the airport.

I have also received the same correspondence from Pafilia/Blue Orange. Back in 2011, I asked them about these requirements, and this is the reply I received then, I get the impression something must have happened recently to prompt the new letter: 7 February 2011 My colleague, Naso, has asked me to ...

Re: Smart phones

I’ve previously had Samsung but now have a Huawei Honor 9 Lite. It’s a super phone, really good value and lots of features you normally only get on more expensive phones. Size wise it’s very manageable too, as some new phones, in my opinion, are a bit big - but it depends what you are looking for.

Re: Taxi prices from PFO

For taxis I would definitely recommend Rocky.
I have used the airport 612 bus regularly as I travel with hand luggage, it has always been on time and it’s a 15 minute walk for me from the harbour to my apartment, which I enjoy after sitting on a plane for several hours.

Re: Istanbul via Ercan

I flew with Pegasus to Sabiha Gocken airport and got a shuttle bus from there. Stayed at the Sapphire Hotel in the Sultanahmet area of Istanbul. It was in a good location for walking about and getting the tram to other locations. Also took the ferry across to Asia, which was a nice wee crossing but ...

Re: Car import

I shipped over a car about 7 years ago from Southampton, filled it with microwave, iron, kettle, hairdryer, DVD player, and other miscellaneous items. It arrived empty at the other end, other than a bag of clothes that had been opened and rummaged through. Lesson learned.

If you click on the email address, it should also reveal the actual email address which will be different from the legitimate one. I get some from Apple trying the same scam.

Re: What to do in a medical emergency?

According to Google:
"In the UK, 999 and 112 do the same thing, namely connect you to the emergency services. Neither number has priority over the other, and neither number provides location information better than the other."

Re: What are my rights?

Last week I was shopping in Tesco in Ayr. When I'm shopping there I use the hand scanner, so I scan the barcode of each item I want and put it straight into my bag - at checkout there is an occasional random check to make sure you haven't bagged anything you haven't scanned! When I got to checkout, ...

If you want to change sterling in Paphos, make sure you bring Bank of England notes. Bank of Scotland, Royal Bank of Scotland and Clydesdale Bank will either be refused or you will get a lower exchange rate - even at the bank.

Re: Hearing aids

It's a pity nothing seems to be able to be done to cure tinnitus which I suffer from.
When my hearing aids were set up, they took my tinnitus into account and adjusted the settings so when I am wearing them my tinnitus is barely noticeable. No idea how it works but thankfully it does.

Re: Hearing aids

I have mild to moderate hearing loss and wear NHS hearing aids. I was absolutely amazed at the difference they made. They are over the ear but then have tiny little ear buds in my ears, not the moulds. They have setting for noisy environments so I can focus on conversation. I would never have believ...

Re: Geocache

Geocaching is fun. I've found a few in Paphos. Some are very well hidden so you need to use the clues to track them down - can make you feel a bit daft wandering round and round a tree or a rock, searching in all the wee nooks and crannies. Micro caches can be really tiny too, and very hard to spot,...

Re: Exterior Insulation Cladding

I own a rental property in a 5 storey high block of flats in Scotland. It has just been covered in cladding, so I was a bit concerned. What I have found out so far is that the main problem in London was the gap between the cladding and the building which acted like a chimney. Apparently there isn't ...
