The Majority of them are indeed Muslims, most are middle eastern, but lately im told there are more Africans also coming to be fed.
Then that is excellent news and a welcome ray of sunshine.

Re: Privacy concerns after video of verbal racist attack goes viral (Updated)

It would be better if you tried doing a bit of research, before posting things that you 'assume' and are not correct, my wife for years now has been doing voluntary work, going with our Cypriot neighbour to cook, serve and clean up, for migrants and poorer people in need, It is the Orthodox Church ...

Re: Privacy concerns after video of verbal racist attack goes viral (Updated)

I agree that there is much good work being done by churches for migrants and refugees. However, my belief is that this is only being done by non-orthodox churches. I may be wrong, and I am sure you will correct me if I am. I recall a post on here by someone who approached the Archbishop for help wit...

Re: Privacy concerns after video of verbal racist attack goes viral (Updated)

I do think my "pop" at the church is justified, and by no means a cheap shot. A Christian church, whatever denomination, should base their words and actions on the basis that all people are equal (as God's children)and part of their wider "flock". Similarly, they should base silence and non-action i...

Re: Privacy concerns after video of verbal racist attack goes viral (Updated)

Hopefully the new Chief of Police will see this as an opportunity to show the new ethos of the police force in treating everyone the same, Cypriot or not. I am pleased to see the outrage from Cypriot society and the fact that one of the women has lost her job. We must remember these women do not rep...

Re: 100,000 new trees for Paphos

It says it is a Municipality initiative. Therefore it is unlikely it will stretch beyond the municipal boundary, and certainly not the Troodos. The thing is, there are many "empty" plots in Paphos with no trees to speak of. 100,000 does sound a lot, but there are 3 new parks either constructed or un...

Re: Civil servant out of order

Cummmings gets over 140,000 pa out of the public purse. Given that he is a political adviser and not a career Civil Servant, I feel it would be more appropriate if he was paid by the Conservative party.

You can recognise who they are by the assortment of rubber stamps on their table.

The lady is Evrodiki and she is very helpful, as they all are.

Re: Two youngsters complain police shot at them (updated)

It is common practice, here in Cyprus, for the police to shoot at the tyres of vehicles that refuse to stop. Cyprus is not the UK, they do things differently here.

Re: Health status of Long term visitor

Assuming long term means over 3 months, then they should have had private insurance in order to get their yellow slip. If they didn't bother and now have medical difficulties, then they should hot foot it back to the UK. However, if an emergency, A&E is still available to all at the general hospital...

Re: Title Deeds - Source of Purchase Funds

I bought a resale around a year ago and didn't have to prove the source of funds to the land registry, in fact I wasn't even asked where the money came from. I got the deeds 6 weeks after the sale, so they are obviously happy.

Perhaps this is something new.

A recent survey indicates increased support for the EU within the Cypriot community. The majority of Cypriots want to remain in the EU.

Re: Cyprus Permanent Partition?

Actually, other than recognition, it has in effect already happened. The North has been running it's own affairs (admittedly with financial support from Turkey) for over 40 years. Don't forget, the North is within the EU. The difference is that the "aquis" had been suspended pending a solution. If p...

Re: 500 Britons become Cypriots in the shadow of a hard Brexit

I have applied and am waiting for 18 months (I was told) for the papers to be assessed. However, the nice woman in the Paphos District Office (this is where you apply if in Paphos District) said my papers were OK and would forward them on. Otherwise my experience was the same as that detailed by Lou...

I guess the government statement is OK, but there ought to be more coming from the church. He needs to be dismissed of course. However, the church's views are not much different from his, so that won't happen.

Err, the Paphos Beer Festival was the weekend before last. The event you describe is the Chloraka Beer Festival.

The Chloraka one is far superior than the Paphos one.

Re: More astounding remarks on gays by Bishop of Morphou go viral (video)

This guy makes the Cyprus church a laughing stock. Whatever happened to love thy neighbour?

In my experience, grubby and unkempt old men in frocks usually smell a damn sight worse than gays I know. In fact, few people smell as good as the gays I know.

Even when they smell of Rhubarb.
