Re: Telephone to use for regular contact back to the UK

That's amazing to know, thanks! Why has nobody mentioned Cyta Soeasy payg sim on unlocked mobile?

Worked well for me during many long stays in Cyprus, calling UK for 1c/min. Great if you don't have web access

Cheers- AL

Re: Renewable Energy #3: Solar (PV) Air Conditioning

Max- rather than refrigerating the air inside a poorly-insulated adobe brick / flat roof / concrete shell abode in the hot season, have you considered Economy Mode, where the A/C units simply dehumidify their enclosed room space, without dropping the actual room temerature too much? Far cheaper on l...

Re: The Far Side of the Akamas

Another fascinating and extremely evocative blog from you, Dom! Thank you SO much! On a few occasions back between 1998 and 2003, I would often meet up on holidays in Paphos with my good friends Chris (also my then workmate on the Fire Alarms) and his OH Sue, both from Luton (same as me). Year after...

Re: Renewable Energy #2: Solar Hot Water with Photovoltaic

I remember that little obnoxious toe-rag spammer Cymply posting about PV panels back on the old CL M$N board that Jacs and I helped JimX to run back in approx 2003!

They've been around in Cyprus since then, for sure? Maybe too expensive in the past 14 years for mass uptake, perhaps?

Cheers- AL :)

Keith- from my Sister's experience (she has lived in Denmark since the early 1970's) the DWP automatically track you down for SP payments. If they are tardy, they backpay it to the due date. In your case, however, I would strongly advise that you write to Newcastle just to make sure that they know y...

Re: Save Electricity - small scale

For what it's worth, when I was on the local hospital 7 week Pulmonary Rehab course, which consisted of two 2 hour sessions on Monday and Wednesday, (split into 1 hour of hard exercise and 1 hour of lecture or vice-versa), at the start of the lecture phase, the nice Respiraratory Nurses asked you if...

Re: King Evelthon Hotel - attempted child kidnap

Sounds to me like an awful misunderstanding. Is it possible that the maid (with her trolley outside in the corridor) was simply coming back to see if the kiddie's cot bedding needed changing? Is it possible than when the Maid cleaned the room earlier, Mum and Dad were down in the restaurant having a...

Re: Bit of a shake

No tides on the Coventry Canal. Are you saying that the Coventry Canal has no locks? If it has, then surely water levels will rise and decrease between the locks by an inch or two, as that's the way the clever Victorian engineers designed them (and still going strong 200 years later!) Strange, but Jim's tidal photos appear to have been edited in the past few hours, with no edit mention in the post I saw earlier, where both photos were the same size. They're not now... Tide In and Tide Out are surely now arse about face (or am I hitting the Famous Grouse too hard this afternoon?) ...

LOL! SAGA (Sex And Games Abroad) I was with them for a VERY reasonable deal on my little 2004 Corsa a few years back. The following year Renewal was a mind-blowing 100% increase after 12 months of no accidents and no claims!!! moneysupermarket.com had already emailed me that they had an even better ...

Re: Insulated plaster board panels

From donkeys years of Fire Alarm engineering experience on major new build sites, watching other trades at work (as they were impeding our cabling progress very often) the Dry Lining (plasterboard) experts from Poland often caught my eye... For example, they could coat a plasterboard wall to render ...
