New dashcam

Post by Devil »

At last, I've received the new dashcam NextBase 312GW. I gave it a test run this morning and the still shows it works.

Even with the reduced resolution of reducing the size and using jpg compression, the number plate is still legible, even at 96 km/h (he was faster). I chose this car for illustration because it has foreign plates with less risk of privacy problems.

This shows a software that comes with the gizmo. At the bottom, there is a graph of speed v. time, a 'speedometer' with time elapsed, a 'compass' and graphics controls. Top right is a scalable map with an arrow of where you are. Unlike my GPS maps, I'm astounded at the accuracy of the centre arrow position: it is always spot-on the road. Pity I can't have that accuracy in the car!

Haven't edited a video yet!

Have just looked at the built-in GPS. At full scale, on the motorway, it can even show which lane you are in. However, it has a delay of about 1 sec, so it is less accurate on curves while it tries to catch up. Notwithstanding, I'm super-impressed. My guess is that it is accurate to within ~±1 m while stationary.

I'm very impressed, Devil. Was it about £90 may I ask? Does it also work as a full Satnav via GPS, or does that feature rely on your smartphone being connected to it via wi-fi?

Cheers- AL :)

New dashcam

I paid £95.94, including tax and postage. The GPS is not a SatNav. The WiFi feature (which does not interest me) has 3 functions: Live View (video or still), Playback and Upload. I don't think it works as a SatNav.
