Apple Trees

Post by Jim B »

We have four Apple trees which we believe are infected with growths called either Galls or Burls which are caused by genetic changes in the tree. Reading up on this it states that the soil is contaminated for about two years after removal of the infected tree.
If we remove them can we plant citrus trees in their place or will they be infected as well?
It does state that the Apple trees can survive with no noticeable side affects but can die because of these growths; does this mean the fruit is still safe to eat?

Many Thanks
Jim
