Brexit Information

Post by Dominic »

NB: if you want to argue about Brexit, do it in the politics section. This is an information post.

There is now some Brexit clarification from the Cypriot Government. You can read about it here:

http://www.moi.gov.cy/moi/crmd/crmd.nsf ... %20V.1.pdf

I won't summarise it, as the document isn't huge, and should be read in full if you are interested.

On a related note, the British High Commission is in Paphos on the 8th October, and is meeting with "Chairs and key figures in the Paphos area" to update us with Brexit information. If you have any sensible questions you would like me to raise, please reply here or send me a PM.

This is a very well written and clear document.

It quite rightly assumes there will be a legal Withdrawal Agreement and then a Transition Period.

However, Mrs May is still going on about a 'No Deal'. The main stumbling block being the Irish border.

If there is no solution to that problem there could be a 'No Deal' situation in which a Withdrawal Agreement is not signed and there isn't a Transition Period. Where we stand is unknown. Although I'm sure the Cypriot Government will do all in its powers to ensure there isn't a major disruption as British holidaymakers are an important part of their economy.

In order to solve the problem without having to kick it down the road Mrs May and / or the EU will need to make some face saving decisions, no doubt at 11:59 on deadline day.
