I thought I had read it before on the forum.. and the Municipality saying it was OK to drink
I suppose from time to time you should drain out and clean your cold water tanks. But I doubt that many people do..

We use the large 18 litre water bottles on a water cooler for cold drinking water But we still use the mains tap in the kitchen for water to boil in the kettle .

In theory the sediment should collect at the bottom of the tank which is below the outlet, which is a few inches up the tank.
But of course it all can get stirred up when the ballcock opens and fresh cold water comes in.
I must admit I have never drained ours off, but we have upright tanks which makes a difference

We do not have any cold water storage at our villa our cold water comes directly off the mains but I’ve been complaining of smelly foul tasting water for many months now. Recently the irrigation to a pot plant on our front doorstep developed a leak which left a brown stain over the doorstep. My husband now thinks it’s time we used bottled water for drinking and cooking.

It is certainly strange not to have a cold water tank.

I never had a cold water storage tank at my last house in Argaka. Like Boxterann all taps of the house were connected to the mains as I had never a water cut in all the years. ( I had my own 50 mm pipe coming 1.5 km from the village water tank) Important was a pressure reducer before entering the house and a different hot water cylinder which could cope with higher pressure. The advantage: always a nice water pressure without running a extra pressure pump and I had lovely drinking water in the bathrooms (brushing teeth...bidet.... etc) or kitchens.

It's an alternative to the toilet to stick your head down after a heavy night out!

More than happy to know about Flossie's hubby's line of work just in case we decide to have a 'clean-out' of our tanks.

Austin7. We have a hot water tank as is usual but our developer didn’t put any cold water storage on any of the 7 villas on our development.

Earthy taste in water is usually caused by algae in the reservoir, harmless but taste can’t be removed during the treatment process. Happens in the UK as well.

We are in Anarita and therefore close to the purification plant. We have not noticed any problem with the rising main water, so I suspect the problem may be in the large water pipe that carries the supply to Geroskipou and Paphos
