I disagree with the notion that speed cameras can solve all problems. That is just not the case. In the UK, many places are getting rid of them.

I would hate it if Cyprus had a speed camera on every corner. Far too Orwellian, and it doesn't solve the problems that are caused by actions other than speeding. It won't stop people yakking on phones, or failing to indicate.

We're about to have some new cameras in a couple of well known speeding spots in the coming few months (where we live in north west UK).

Rather them being the cameras you can spot some distance away in those orangey coloured metal boxes, these will be set very high up and will monitor the speed of the vehicles over the length of the road - so basically, no more slowing down as you approach and leave the field of the camera's view. They're smaller so less visible and are grey.... http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-la ... e-38555443

As a rule, these are used more on motorways than rural roads such as ours - but we do have several accident spots caused by drivers going too fast and far too close on narrow, twisty roads.

I was focused more on the typical driving behaving in this article than on cameras...

I'm sorry I never click on link without some kind of attribute to it... I followed on from the reply which was about traffic cameras.

I sincerely hope the writer is not paid for producing this published whinge. The first sentence alone is ridiculous enough. He then goes on to try and create an impression that driving in Cyprus is a terrible business. He makes no intelligent comparison to the experience in other countries, both those where driving may be deemed better and those where it is fatally worse. I also hope it will not deter people from visiting Cyprus by the use of his sensational, exaggerated phrases: "Highway to hell"; "the system turns us into raging loonies by default"; "Tougher fines and sentencing is needed to prevent carnage". All overblown, unnecessary and incorrect. (The last one grammatically too.)

There is room for improvement in driving everywhere especially including Cyprus but there is no purpose in perpetuating a wrong and false impression of driving here.

A worthless article.

I find driving in Cyprus much, much less stressful than driving in the UK. I drive defensively in Cyprus, as I don't believe it is a good idea to just assume somebody will drive according to the law - and I have no problems. The more people try to make Cyprus like the UK, and control everything people do, the more I worry.

I agree too. If I wanted to be in a place more like England I'd have stayed there.
