Tax Return Errors - Any Suggestion / Solutions

Post by Alewfin »

I have tried to complete my electronic tax return but it just comes up with errors.

It wants me to enter details of my employment in the Republic even though I have never been employed in the Republic. The Tax Return comes prerecorded with a Taxpayer's Classification of 09 Pensioner.
PART 4 - TABLE A
Error Row 1. CODE is required.
Error Row 1. PERIOD(months) is required.
Error Declare your employment for the remaining period.

It also doesn't like my pension amounts no matter how I enter them.
PART 4 - TABLE B
Error Row 1. Field PENSION AMOUNT must be number with maximum 9 digits and 2 fractional digits. Positive numbers do not need a sign.
Error Row 2. Field PENSION AMOUNT must be number with maximum 9 digits and 2 fractional digits. Positive numbers do not need a sign.

Anybody have any bright ideas, suggestions or solutions ?

Cheers

If you are registered as 09 pensioner then you ignore Table A. I had same trouble with Table B but I just entered my yearly amount omitting .00 afterwards. Hope that works for you

Tried your suggestions but still the same errors. Looks like a visit to the Tax Office is required.

Sorry to hear you’re still having trouble. Are you entering any figures under the first heading T.I.C. cos I tried and in the finish I left it blank which was accepted and again just entered the euros with no decimal points. I assume you only have a UK Government pension and possibly private one/s which is what we have and there were no hiccups - mind you it took me several frustrating hours to sort it out!!! Be lucky. It says in the instructions, towards the back of the form, that income must be stated to the nearest euro. I.e. whole euros and no cents. I strongly suggest people read these before completing the form.

If you only have pension income than only fill in the pension section. Parts that are not relevant should be left blank.

I managed to complete mine in around 15 mins, and it gave me the 5% rate which I asked for by selecting code 2 for the reduced rate. I guess it did check my totals to ensure I was eligible.

Mandyr,

I eventually managed to submit it.

The instructions said something along the lines that the pension amount was up to 9 characters. What it actually meant was that it required leading zeros so that the amount entered was no bigger and no less than 9 characters. When I was a programmer way back in the 1970s using Assembler we would fill in the leading zeros programmatically.

Also all the nonsense about commas and full stops. It didn't require any.

Thanks for your help

When I initially filled in my tax form I thought I'd be clever and enter 'NA' in every field that did not affect me. Course I got a string of error messages when I submitted it!! Deleted the lot and it went through no problem! Duh!

Having senior moments trying to do OH’s tax return! Any help most welcome.

He gets 3 pensions - state, civil service & private. What do I put under “Payer of Pension” as there are only 3 codes you can select - State Officers, Widows, or Social Insurance.

When submitting the paper version the amounts were all lumped together as one total. Do I do this on the Taxis form & if so which code do I put?

Any advice gratefully received.

Help please, I'm stuck.

When I get near to the end I cannot see a tab to submit the form. If I press 'calculations of totals' or 'self assessment' it says "By making this choice the system will automatically compute the "Totals" and store the return without final submission.
If you make any additions / amendments you must recomputed the Totals again.
Are you sure for this choice?"

I pressed No to these options, stored the form to prevent me losing all that I filled in. When I return to it the compulsory self assessment section is there but the system won't allow me to enter any information.

Please help someone. Thanks

Polly,

When it comes up with a choice, hit 'yes'. I did and it calculated my total correctly from the two pensions I had entered in an early section.

Thanks for this Alewfin.

I think I have overcome that problem - and received some errors. One was for the UK national state pension. I entered this figure as gross emoulements inside the republic as this is where the UK pension is paid, into a Cyprus bank account. But the system doesn't like it so am I supposed to enter it as paid outside the Republic and in euros or pounds? I thought all figures had to be in euros.

Also, when I have finally overcome this how do I submit the form. Go back to the page where it says View Return/Submit and submit?

If you can help further, I thank you.

I think you are in the wrong section , a pension is not a salary , but I could be wrong . :?

Thank you Mrblobby and Hudswell. Sorry if I am being a bit of a pain but as soon as I think I have sorted it another question comes up. I have moved pension info to the pension sector, but now I have the same problem as Tuppence. There are only three sources to select for payer of the pension: State Officers, Widows, or Social Insurance. Which one for a private pension?

Tuppence, did you find an answer?

Same answer , there are not just 3 choices there are 6 .

4,5 and 6 are for Cypriot pensions .

Most brits use either 1 or 2 .

Sorry Mrblobby but I still don't understand. I'm not referring to the tax codes i.e. normal rates/reduced rates. I'm referring to the search icon just right of the payer of pension box. If I click these I get the three options I mention earlier.
