The spiralling cost of petrol

Hi All,
Just a general,observation. When I returned to Cyprus in mid April, the price of fuel (petrol) for my car was around €1.23. Since then almost every time I have to buy more petrol it seems to have gone up. Presently some garages are charging approx €1.31 -1.34 per litre. Previously, I was told that the price petrol is sold at, is adjusted according to the price of the latest shipment (to the island?) The rise in the price doesn’t seem that much, but it is per litre, so the cost is cumulative.
But does anyone know roughly how often bulk deliveries to the island take place?

Interesingly, people returning from the north are saying that petrol prices are much cheaper there.

Next thing what will happen is that the electricity price goes up, due to the fuel adjustment costs....Brent Crude Oil went up 45% since last year..

We've got friends visiting from the UK at the moment. They said the petrol price in the UK is the same in pounds as it is here in Euros. IE we pay 1.30 euros whereas they would pay £1.30. So it is 14% more expensive in the UK. That is the same ratio I have observed since living in Cyprus. Prices have gone up, but they have gone up everywhere.

What I have found with petrol prices here is that they do not vary much between garages. Whereas in the UK the different prices can be up to 10 pence.
Two days ago the cheapest petrol in the Northwest UK area we visit was 118.9p

I think that there is very little storage here [ just as well as it would probably be next to the Power Station and could Blow Up ] so they all get it from the same Tanker load and all pay the same price.

There are certainly more and more filling stations now than there was a few years ago.

Oil prices increased this year and added about 15p per litre to petrol/diesel in the UK....

Oil prices are now falling again, but I wouldn’t expect to see immediate falls... that’s the way it works... They have fallen 5% this week, due to increased supply from the larger producing countries.

We are over in the North probably twice per week and buy our fuel there, works out about seventy pence sterling, per litre.

ronk - if you have nothing to say about the subject of this string why post at all?

A few years ago the Government of the time thought that the garages around Paphos acted as if they were in a cartel, which the Govt tried to break up. Instead these garages went on strike and closed their pumps. After a few days the whole thing fell apart. The Govt had to back down, so nothing further seems to be done to try to ‘encourage’ individual garages to set their own prices allowing some competition betwen them. I suppose that owning a petrol station must be profitabe though as why would people want to open new ones all over the district?
