Been laid up for a while...

Post by PhotoLady »

This flu bug really got hold of me and it's kept me indoors for several weeks. We just started to get out and about last week which luckily tied in with some sunny days although it was mostly bitterly cold with the wind always coming from an easterly direction of sorts.

So in between keeping an eye on what's been going on down at our ferry jetty after the skulduggery and ructions preceding our local elections, I've spent the majority of my days for the last 3 weeks following 2 weeks in bed sitting in the conservatory bird watching in the back garden.

These from last Tuesday and Thursday at the ferry jetty:

Looking up the River Wyre towards Freeport at Fleetwood

A rather large trench and many old cobblestones removed - being replaced by concrete. I doubt the cobblestones will make a further appearance!

Flowers on the incoming tide:

Yes, they were taking out the jet ski's!!!

From the conservatory:
Goldfinches in a row. We now have 6 which all tend to arrive together at a certain time of the day but difficult to capture them all at once.
Image

Collared Dove trying to work out how to reach the sunflower hearts.

Safety in numbers!

Here's looking at you (Feral Pigeon):

And my favourite from yesterday, this Blackbird standing to attention:

Still trying to capture the two Robins together although mostly, they do tend to stay separate from each other even though they visit at the same time. I think it's our Ruby and Indie because one is rather round and chubby and the other is much slimmer.

Hope everyone is okay over there in Cyprus!
I've been trying to keep up but have spent most of my viewing from my mobile phone and it's not so easy to manipulate.

Nice photo of the Blackbird, I see them here but they are rather elusive unlike in the UK ............... and as for Robins well I'm sure they a different species to ones found in the UK, frequently heard but rarely seen!

Thanks smudger :-)
We've only got a short time to go then we're off to Benidorm with Mum for a couple of weeks - should be a bit warmer on the Spanish mainland than here.
The last week has been absolutely fabulous for blue skies and sunshine - just very cold except for the odd day when the wind has dropped.

Hope you enjoy Benidorm.
We were there in 1970 for our honeymoon.
Hotel Acapulco was where we stayed.
It would be nice if you found it and posted a pic for me.

I wasn't called in for a flu jab by the clinic.... I'm not of a certain age yet. I will be going next year but I can't recall exactly when I last had one.

Hotel Acapulco - I shall ask about it before we go.... It's almost 20yrs since we were in Benidorm and we know some things have changed and hotels revamped.

Skulduggery, lies and damned lies by the conservatives claiming they secured an 8yr contract with a new operator just 2 days before the town council elections. The reality is the contract was never signed and the operator pulled out. There's now no ferry service but there is "hope" something may be resolved for Easter and even then probably on a temporary basis for the summer season only.

Small village life at its very best 😉

Thanks Shane!
The Blackbird is one of our favourites. He also has a lady friend who sometimes pops along with him ☺️

Try and get to Benidorm Palace as well while you are there. There can be some amazing views as well.

Memory Man - Hotel Acapulco, could this be it?
http://www.hotel-acapulco.es/en

It's all been renovated over the years but if you take a peep on the Contact page of the website and scroll down past the form completion fields, there's a location map which may help you to place if it's the same hotel you stayed in.

PLady...............Thanks for the info

Its very difficult to remember the hotel
almost 50 years later.
I really cannot remember much apart
from a violent storm which lasted 2-3 days
and we were there for only 10 days..
The mud around the streets due to the rain
was horrendous, and this was my first holiday
abroad.

Eh?
You were on your honeymoon and you only remember a storm?

I've asked on the forum I use and this appears to be the only Acapulco in Benidorm. It's set inland at the Old Town end of the resort and we're staying at the very far end of the New Town (Rincon de Loix) area of town so they're a long way from each other and we're unlikely to make a special trip unless you can give me a few more clues.
I'm very happy to take a wander there though if you feel it's the same building.

PS - don't tell Mrs MM about your recollections ;-)

Shame on you MM for not remembering much apart from the weather whilst on honeymoon. I still remember everything about ours in Jersey but don't have a clue what was going on outside the hotel

Enjoy your holiday PL :D

Today, we felt the wrath of the Beast from the East..... it's been the most mixed day we've experienced!

This morning
Image

A little before lunchtime
Image

Image

Fine for the rest of the day we were blessed with sunshine and blue skies but around 16:30hrs we had a rapid temperature drop. It's being showing -1 Celsius with a Real Feel of -9 Celsius for most of the day.

Then this:
Image

About 12 minutes later, it brightened again so I took advantage and went to fill up the bird feeders in the yard when it started to snow on me. I managed to escape the worst of it and dodged back again when it stopped to put out some currants and raisins.

We still have a white floor in the back garden but there's it's nothing to shout about.
Image

Apparently, Storm Emma is following rapidly behind.... I wonder what she's going to do?

Off out to Ma Kelly's in Blackpool tomorrow afternoon for a bit of singing and dancing, followed by a chippy tea at Yorkshire Fisheries on Topping Street before hopping on the bus back over the River Wyre.

This gives you more of an insight over the skulduggery of the ferry and the recent local council elections:
