Dominic wrote: Mon Jan 23, 2017 10:11 am So how come UKIP only have one MP?

The referendum showed us that many more people wanted to leave the EU than wanted to vote for UKIP and Farage.
How come the SNP have 56...?

First Past the Post system is the answer...

UKIP = 4 millions votes, 1 MP

SNP = 1½ million votes, 56 MPs

Lib Dems = 2½ million votes, 8 MPs

etc.
Those figures would be relevent if we were discussing electoral reform, but we aren't. If every person who voted to leave also voted for UKIP, they would have won the UK election. But the fact is that many more people wanted to leave the EU than wanted to vote for UKIP and Farage.
You asked why they only had one MP and the clear answer is the FPTP system...

I don't think anybody has ever claimed that everyone that wanted to leave the EU was a UKIP supporter did they...? Clearly, many people still vote tribaly even though the party they vote for in the GE doesn't represent their views on the EU...

Your claimed that millions of people voted for HIM. They didn't. They voted to leave the EU.

Well he got over 4 million votes in the Euro elections and won them...

And UKIP got nearly 4 million votes in the GE...

So yeah, millions did vote for him...

And the referendum wasn't a Farage or Cameron choice was it (unlike the European Parliament Elections)...?

Oh dear, oh dear, the dolly certainly gets thrown from the pram when the REMOANERS get tetchy.
Nigel Farage and UKIP forced the EU referendum on David Cameron, it was, according to the MSM, his only option, he gambled, he lost and he buggered-off, good for him because he accepted he’d lost.
Obviously some REMOANERS have not and try to blame all and sundry, including Nigel, who, incidentally was instrumental in obtaining the glorious leave vote. I can, to a degree, understand your slight upset at losing but your continual moaning puts you in the same camp with the likes of Bob Geldof, Lille Allen, Tim Farron and Nick Clegg, the great unwashed, the untalented and the downright thick. Now; if you’re happy being associated with these irrelevant so be it, but, like we laugh at them do not be surprised if you too get laughed at.
The UK voted to leave the EU. Fact. The UK will leave the EU. Fact. No matter how much you whinge and whine like petulant schoolgirls you cannot alter the facts, suck it up and live with it and rejoice in the fact that very soon the millstone that is the EU will be removed from our necks.

You don't have to like Farage, but to deny his part in bringing about the overdue EU referendum and his popularity amongst the majority of the population that voted out is plain silly.

He has done what he set out to do and has now moved on to to a non political role- slagging him off now makes as much sense as cursing the wind

ME!!! And I also think that she is amazing how she has managed her disability! My Nephew has epilepsy although nowhere near severe as Katie had. I also had a few clients who had epilepsy and they told me tales of falling down in the street having an episode and people just walking past presuming they were drunk.
If you don't agree with her politics and articles fine but please don't bring her personal issues into your diatribes. It could even be seen as being prejudiced!!!

You can't say that the majority of people who voted out like Farage. Show me any statistic that supports that, because I must have missed it.

Oh and I have implemented a word filter. A certain word now automatically gets changed to "remain". :)

Can you add 'misogynistic racist Little Englander' or some such becomes 'Brexiter' to the swear filter too...?

They might not want him as a son in law or even like him as person, but they must have liked what he said and what he stood for surely and that is how you assess a politicians "popularity".

I have never met the guy, so I can't comment on his personality but if he was as unpopular as some on here state surely we would never have voted to Leave

How can you censor a word like R.E.M.O.A.N.E.R just because YOU do not like it?

I am looking at the US me and many millions of others hoping Trump gets bored soon and puts others in charge...oh wait a minute, that could be even worse.. Glad I'm not American :(
Are you seriously comparing Farage to Hilter ......if you have got an arguement ??

Oh wait ...you're the one who flounced off another forum in a blaze of glory because people did not agree with you..now I understand .
Oh for heavens sake! Another who wants everyone one to agree with his/her thoughts OR out comes the personal stuff....sigh....after eight years on another forum I thought I'd avoid the 'same old same old' and look for something new and fresh.....hence why I came here...just a few things need dusting off and it will be IMO, so away with your personal remarks, I am still on the other forum after a troll pm I decided I didn't need to argue with some such ridiculous human beings that can't get a life wherever they live it seems....so look for reactions on a forum. What I think of Farage and other sick politicians will get put on here if rules allow, if I wish to say it you can disagree all you like, but I'll say it, I have at least 8 more years on the forum before I retire from it....getting personal means you lose the argument ...

Poppy ahhhhhh here they come from the other forum...
Katie Hopkins?
Donald Trump
Nigel Farage
All in one sorry little group .that helps to speak of them all...
But instead I'd say google it....others speak about them far better than I, I'd say hated them far better than I...but nevertheless my distaste of those individuals is felt by many.
I am not a member of the other forum ..just browse it ..

I feel sad for you that you seem unable to express your dislike of certain people without resorting to vitriolic outbursts. Katie Hopkins, Donald Trump, now Nigel Farage - whoever next?
Ignorance is the enemy. When enough people value their own opinions and beliefs over hard evidence and facts, we're all f£$ked. Have a nice day..........

Gandhi obviously wasn't around long enough to see how his wisdom would pan out in the "all about me" regressive society that masquerades as democracy these days

He said "first they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win" - ring any bell Lynsab?

He obviously was unable to add the bit about the "undemocratic sore losers will be moaning about it ad infinitum" because he probably couldn't ever have imagined those lucky enough to be living in a democracy could ever be so shallow and selfish about the implications of losing a democratic vote

Did you see the woman escorted off the plane for attacking a Trump supporting fellow passenger...?

These are just unpleasant people. Left-wing politics, like pulling the wings off flies, is something unpleasant people do.

Compared to the actions of some right wingers, that is small beer.

There are idiots on all sides of the political spectrum. And before you spend too much time quoting Gandhi, you might want to have a look at what he said about his friend Adolf Hitler.

"Gandhi obviously wasn't around long enough to see how his wisdom would pan out in the "all about me" regressive society that masquerades as democracy these days  "

And that is complete bunk. A lot of people upset about brexit are upset because it will mean less help for the needy; the refugees and the people reliant on the protection of the EU. The exact opposite of "all about me".
