Geographically, it’s Asia.

Culturally it’s Europe.

Geologically it’s “complex”
Cyprus is located in a tectonically complex zone in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea where three continental plates meet: the African plate to the south, the Eurasian plate to the north and the Arabian plate to the east.

I think EURASIAN is nearer the mark, in The Mediterranean sea, but not part of the Asian land mass.

Don't ask Barclays Bank, they have never heard of Cyprus. When we had to close our account at their behest, the person I was speaking to on the phone had not heard of Cyprus.

Geographically, Cypus is in Asia Minor, same as Turkey to the north.

If you like doing jigsaws you can see where Cyprus slotted into the land mass that is now Turkey

Nice one, Uncle D! Some more info to add to your theory.

Once a day, I go onto the NASA http://iss.astroviewer.net/ site to see what the astronauts up there, orbiting every 95 minutes, 260 miles up, doing 17,500 mph are seeing below. Usually, I see nowt, as they are half way across the Pacific Ocean, LOL!

But this morning was different. I was leaving the Sahara and North Africa and entering the Med. Bottom right, I could see the Nile Delta. Further up, was Crete, Rhodes, Turkey. Then the whole of Cyprus crept into view... The amazing feature of these NASA images is that they map sea depths (shallow to deep).

What I witnessed earlier was an underwater ridge that joins the Panhandle of Cyprus to the top right hand corner of the Med in Turkey / Syria. I agree 100% with your jigsaw puzzle!
