Jim Cross
Jim Cross
I have just heard that Jim Cross has passed away after an illness.
When I first arrived in Cyprus and set up the Paphos Life website, it didn't have a forum. I couldn't see the point, as there was already Cyprus Living, which did an admirable job. I had only published a couple of blog articles on the site, and it was still very much in its infancy. Then, over Christmas, Jim announced he was closing Cyprus Living. So I decided to set up this forum, and asked him if it was ok to mention it on his Closing Down announcement thread. He was happy for me to do so, and so this forum was born. It received a huge boost by being able to adopt a significant proportion of the active Cyprus Living forum, which in turn helped to promote the rest of the site. So I will forever be grateful to him for that.
Since then we had the occasional run-in, as I am sure most of you did. Jim was certainly Jim. But when it mattered, he was always very helpful.
I didn't know him as a lot of you will have known him, as I was a newcomer when he closed Cyprus Living, but I am sure you will be saddened to hear the news, and I thought it should be passed on.
I will move this thread to the Absent Friends sub-forum once the dust has settled. But for now, join me in a virtual toast to JimX, the founder of Cyprus Living. May he Rest In Peace.

Re: Jim Cross
Really sad to hear this. I knew he had not been himself for some time. Used to meet him down at Gerriskipou Beach when I was out on my bike or walking, with his dog Coco.
RIP Jim and thanks for Cyprus Living and the members that supported us when we were having problems with our property purchase and had balliffs at our door with notice to repossess our property.

Very sad news. The forum really helped me with my move to Paphos in 2006. Forever grateful. RIP

We also had a few run ins but what a thankless task running a forum must be!
Rest in peace

I knew Jim too, he was so kind, and always helpful. He will be missed by many. My heart felt sympathy to his family.

Re: Jim Cross
Oh, what sad news.
I was on Cyprus Living for many many years before he closed it, and it was such an invaluable source of information. Back in the days without Facebook groups, many of us would have been lost without it.
I'm so glad you kept a local Paphos forum going Dominic, I still look on here most days during a coffee break at work.

Re: Jim Cross
We walk our dogs past Jim's house and often stopped and chatted with Jim who'd be sitting on a bench with Coco on the corner opposite his house.
Attended his funeral last Monday. RIP Jim.

Re: Jim Cross
Wow that is really sad news!!
I only messaged him a few weeks ago as hadn't seen him online and we exchanged messages.
It was from Cyprus Living that our eastern forum started and it was very helpful when we were buying property.
RIP Jim and thanks for the memories!

Re: Jim Cross
Yes we all must have used Cyprus Living forum.
I found alot of useful information to help us on our journey of living in Cyprus.
The fact that Jim created it and it helped so many is some thing to be very proud of.
Condolences to his family

CL was of great help to us when we bought here.
Jim also organised a few but nonetheless most enjoyable social evenings offering the chance to put faces to names and share knowledge.
