Too much is made of nationality in headlines. It would have been better just to have written "man dies after being run over by a driver in Peyia" and then keep the details for the text.

I guess they have to, otherwise people automatically jump to conclusions and blame the local population / immigrants or whatever. An unfortunate fact of life these days is that lots of people don't read beyond the headline.

Another possible serious accident in Peyia last night about 16.30.

We were on the way past the kebab shop next to the Peyia Tavern
and there was a jeep mounted on the high pavement which looks
like it had crashed into the front of kebab shop.
Loads of people milling about, 1 policeman in attendance, lots of
traffic congestion and a lot of blood.
The shop is taped off today and there seems to be a guard inside.

Drunk driver crashes into fast-food store in Peyia, injures owner

A 39-year-old intoxicated driver was arrested on Thursday after he crashed the day before into a fast-food store in Peyia, hitting and injuring the owner who was inside at the time.

Paphos Traffic Police also said that the 36-year-old injured man is in serious condition but out of danger.

And that the driver had lost control of his vehicle on Michalakis Kyprianou Avenue at 4:45pm.

The man first hit a cement wall, and then crashed into the fast-food store with an alcotest carried out registering 92μg instead of the permitted 22μg.

Police are continuing their investigations.

Yes Aargent, that was indeed him. He still played although arthritis reduced his ability and prevented him being in bands. I was only chatting to him on Monday. A nice guy and a sad loss.

Very sad. He was a nice Guy.
Driving back along ToTK as it went dark this evening, it struck me that all the pedestrians crossing this busy road were wearing back, or dark coloured clothing. With dark hair and tanned skins they aren't always easy to see.
I wondered if there might be less pedestrians killed while crossing roads if they wore lighter shades of clothing, such as sweaters or jackets? This might reflect any available lighting and make them more easily visible to drivers?

It’s not safe trying to cross a badly lit road after dark. I don’t do it, if I did I would make darn sure that the road was clear. I would try to wear a
light coloured coat or sweater and might also carry a torch too.

You just don’t know what state a driver may be in. He may be a foreigner not used to driving on the left, or he may be drunk, or under the influence of drugs or both..
Just take care if you have to…
